Can you belief this guy comes on The Big Show on 1280 an dares to say Draymond is better defender ONLY cause the NBA is a guard dominant league an Rudy does not guard guards?

BULL ****

Okay first of all Draymond don't guard guards that much. Second off they don't even try to switch off on Gobert cause he crushes guards when they try. Third, this dude can camp in the paint while Quin Snyder designs a run them off the three point line strategy.

**** Sam Amick I will never buy a nother USA Today again. Rudy is DPOY period.

It's a Utah thing. I've learned to live with it. Think of it as a good thing. Gobert felt disrespected or being named an all star, it's fueled him to be even better since. Gobert won't win DPOY and will only make him play with something more to prove. We all saw how he reaped the knicks. Think of him doing this more often next year and becoming the unquestioned unanimous top center in the game. If last night becomes more the norm then the anomaly he will win the jazz a title

No player in the league is more of a deterrent than Rudy. Not even close. Players look at Rudy and see a traffic light thats red. thats how it says to treat him in the scouting report, only the strongest fastest and shrewdest even attempt to try him(westbrook, lillard, derozan)

He's gonna lose, again, but should run away with it.

FOlks who don;t have Rudy #1 for DPOY don't watch the Jazz all the time, it's that simple.

Rudy was the best defensive player last year too.

At-least they can't snub him from all NBA 1st team defense..

Should be going for three consecutive DPOY's next season..

I think people discount what Rudy is able to do because of his measurables and put a premium on what smaller players do. Sportswriters, more specifically white sportswriters, love love love themselves players that "play the right way" or "play hard" (Danny Woodhead, David Eckstien in other sports). And since defense is often described as a hustle, commitment, heart element of the game, Rudy's body works against him.

Let's go into the head of Sam Amick:

Of course Rudy's dominant. He can touch the rim standing on his tip toes. He should be blocking everything in sight. Now Draymond Green. This guy. THIS GUY CARES. He cares so much he kicks people right in the dick all the time. Can't help himself. Kawhi Leonard too. Give me this guy. So stoic. So focused. Can never be rattled. Never ever smiles or complains about anything. They care so much about the game that they even defend.

Now that we're out of the head of Sam Amick let me point out that while Rudy's measurables are insane, there are other players that have approached his measurables. Gheroge Muresan, manute Bol, Shawn Bradley, Hasheem Thabeet. And non of these ****ers ever did what Rudy does.

And Gobert doesnt crush guards. I think we all remember Seth Curry taking him to school in the Dallas loss where they isolated him twice in a row on switches towards the end of the game and he got fairly easy layups out of it.

I'd still have Gobert #1 though, partially because of all the injuries to key defensive pieces for Utah (Favors and Hill).

Green has built up steam over the last two or three years... sense I get is its "his turn". Was close last year between him and Kwahi.

I'd vote Gobert because you should vote against a Deity.

It's a valid argument.

No, it is not. It implies that Gobert doesn't care. That's straight idiocy. Gobert absolutely cares and works and hustles his butt of every single game. He is incredibly focused and driven. I'm not saying that Kawhi and Draymond are not driven either, they are. But to try and down play Gobert that way is just foolish.

I think Kawhi gets it again as a consolation prize in the MVP race. It sucks that NBA awards are distorted in this fashion.

? I'm just talking about the fact that Draymond is the more versatile defender being an argument for why he should be DPOY. I dont know how that implies any of that. I'm not saying it's means Green > Gobert, but it's an argument worth having and isn't ridiculous to side with either one.

Draymond Green doesn't create a force field around the paint and lead all of the most important defensive metrics by a mile by why should that matter?

Oh, I misunderstood then. I thought you were talking about his drive and focuse based on the post order. My mistake

Hasnt Kawhi won it the last two years? I doubt he win it. He will just get First Team All-NBA again. I dont think voters will see DPOY as a consolation prize for MVP as much as the first team vote.

I think green is the more versatile player but I don't think his effect defensively is better than Goberts. Green is a good helper and gets a lot of deflections but Gobert enters the thought process of all five offensive players for the majority of the game.

I'm clearly biased but I think those that don't vote for him just aren't paying attention. He could probably double his counting defensive stats if he wanted to chase blocks. He makes the right basketball play almost every time.

You are underselling Green a bit. He can play tenacious 1 on 1 D against anyone too. He also has pretty good rim protection numbers. He is a lot like Gobert too in that he is his team's defensive identity, both schematically and emotionally.

Come on, giving it to Green wouldn't be an outrage at all, the guy isn't big yet he can defend all position and is a key in what the Warriors have been able to do the last 3 years.. Green/Gobert is to me a toss up, Green will win it probably. If someone else does then it's an outrage.

I'm not taking anything away from Green or Leonard, Gobert is just in his own tier above everyone in terms of his impact on defense. Just is. The facts ****ing agree.
