Rudy Gobert "Greatest Jazz Center of All Time" Countdown Thread

Memo played almost all his minutes at the 5; he was a center. As for Eaton, yes, he did play in a different era. The game was more physical. The 3pt shot was less of a weapon when he played and more of a novelty.
I think we undervalue Eaton's impact. He changed the game as well. The Jazz' strategy was to funnel everything to the middle so Eaton could block or punish players trying to drive inside. Eaton was a better shot-blocker than Gobert.

However, in today's game, Gobert often switchers on screens. A few games ago he switched onto the PG a few times and held his own. He is light years ahead of Memo on defense, but Memo was light years ahead on offense. I'd rate him ahead of Eaton defensively, although it's close.

It's only longevity that puts him outside of those two - and any others - in terms of overall stats.

How many shots would Rudy blocks in Eaton's era where players didnt shoot as many shots away from teh basket? At least 5 a game I'd think.

So, I was going to say that players are a lot lighter today than in olden days...but it says that Jordan played at 195 lbs and Durant is listed at 240 lbs....

So, bag that argument.

Not really the best guys to compare when Durant is like 5 or 6 inches taller than Jordan.

I believe if you took Eaton and played him in this era he would really struggle. He was not built to guard the game the way it is played today. But if you took Gobert and put him in the era Eaton played in he would also really struggle, he's not built to defend guys like Hakeem, Ewing and the low post big bodied centers that Eaton had to go up against. Eaton had to play these guys while also closing the paint to far more aggressive players coming at him. I think Gobert is the perfect type of guy at the center position in today's NBA. Athletic, tall and fairly fast on his feet, for a guy his size.
Geez. Shaq would've eaten Gobert alive. Lol
True, but Durant is so freaking skinny.

Durant isn't the been pole he used to be when he came into the league. It just appears that way because of his length, and he plays a ton of pf as well. I think he's listed as a pf even though he starts at sf. Guys being lighter has more to do with 4's and 5's. They are definetly smaller then in the 80's and 90's. I will say, the bigger 5's seem to be making a comeback a bit

Yeah, that big *** was important in an NBA were you played one on one and there was less space, you needed the strength to bump your opponent out of the way. Now it's just not the same, you defend or attack space, speed is at a premium. A guy like Gobert would still be very useful because of how tall he is (length was always useful !) but he would get pushed around by the strong guys.

Jokic>>> Gobert now and for the future and its not even close. Other day on ESPN radio they were talking bout the influx of great young big guys and kept mentioning a top 5 from multiple sources and all had same 5 but not all in same order, Anyways here is the 5 they kept brining up
AD
Anthony Towns
KP
Embied
Jokic

Not one person mentioned Gobert but that's wrong right Jazz fanz? Gobert is easily better then every single one of them players.

AD is PF not a center. Same with KP. Jokic is great offensive big with no defense so he won't have much impact on team success. From that list only Embiid has potential to have game changing defensive and offensive presence. It's ok for Gobert to fly under the radar just because he does not have flashy offensive game like Towns... but seeing his drive and desire to get better I think we are in for surprise in few years.

How many of those guys have turned their teams into the number 1 (or close to that) defensive team in the NBA almost by themselves? Those are great young players though, as well as Gobert though.

I assumed you wouldnt be trolling until Jazz had a rough patch. Is Portland still a much better team than the Jazz like you have said over and over?

Blazers won a playoff series last year. Doubt the Jazz do... Jazz are about to be passed by the nuggets within a year or two. The season is far from over.

Fact remains that Jokic is a better player for the future then Gobert. Dude is capable of getting multiple triple doubles in a season.. Sorry but I dotn ever see Gobert getting one. Defens eis nice and all but still got to put the ball into the basket to win. This isn't football so satying defense wins Chips is just totally wrong.

Triple doubles are super important, any player who doesn't get triple doubles sucks.

defense, meh, it kind of matters.

I was ****ing stunned that ncolorado was getting responses from people on this site in just his second week of posting here. It's now been over 6 years. Amazeballs.

Why are you bringing up Blazers previous team? That has little to do with this year. Are they going to win or be in the playoffs this year are they as good as the Jazz this year? NO.

Jazz are a much better team than the Blazers this year. You were wrong about that. You said the Blazers would be much better this year.

I guess we will see about the Nuggs but I am pretty sure in 1-2 years the Jazz will be better. You will be wrong on that one too.

Better than responding to the same people every day. No reason to ignore people who rarely post. This troll account is amusing sometimes. Its better than his other accounts that post way too much.

There is no point in responding to a troll. He is not a real poster, so there is no reason to try to engage in a fake conversation with him. Same applies to Boris and Dutch.
