What's new

Rumor: Jazz want to - and can - acquire Milsap. May trade Favors in draft day deal.

Why do people keep saying favors for millsap in a trade?

It has been stated clearly in this very thread that the jazz can't trade favors for a free agent (millsap)

I was using short hand to sum up the situation. I'm referring to Favors trade for whatever = Signing Millsap as replacement. Thus trading Favors to MAKE ROOM for Millsap. Get out of the weeds, bruh.

No the Dwill trade for Favors would end up being whatever we trade Favors for. Jazz are not trading Favors for nothing just to clear cap space. They can clear cap space to sign Milsap without trading Favors.

So if its for a pick or a player that would be what we need to evaluate for the Dwill trade. Although in retrospect just dumping Dwill for nothing would have been worth it in the long run for the Jazz.

Wow, there's more panties in a twist here today than at the Victoria's Secret half-off table the day before Valentine's. Has it crossed anyone's mind that everybody throws smoke this time of year just to get things moving? I'll be thunderstruck if the Jazz traded Favors, Gobert, Exum, Hayward or Hood (yes, I think he's in that group going forward). Anyone else is probably fair game, but I don't see a lot of value for most of the pieces we have with other teams. My guess is, if anything, we move back a few spots and try to pick up another 1st or 2nd rounder in the coming drafts.

Once again, get out of the weeds. Never did I mention cap space, I'm referring to positional space - like everyone who is commenting and writing on the rumor. But you're right, it would depend on whats coming back. But a move involving Favors, that facilitates Millsap's return, moves the centerpiece of the DWill trade for a high pick (rumored) and allows Millsap to return and start at PF. We could have kept him and Favors 2 years ago.

Considering DWill trade value at the time, dumping him for nothing would have been a huge mistake. Even if he sucks now, there's no way anyone would sit pretty with just letting DWill walk.

Thats all the matters. Signing Milsap is a separate pursuit. If this happens (which seems highly unlikely) The Dwill trade will = whatever we trade Favors for plus some other little stuff that may or may not turn into something.

This.

the new jazz are heavy into the rumors. It's DL's way. When you have Stockton and Malone for 20 years and you are working hard to keep the franchise viable, there's not a lot to be discussing - and so a style formed. This is a new era. DLs is dropping smokebombs left and right.

And for those hating on the media members, they are just tools of the business. Jody gets some readership with a couple of juicy rumors and DL gets a few people calling him about Favors.

It could be argued that DFav is a top5 most valuable trade piece. As everyone has noted here: Skill level + Age + Contract makes him one or two spots below Lebron. (I'd take LeBron for any price). So by dangling Favors' name, every GM calls. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if DL told DFav to ignore the stories...

It hasn't historically been the Jazz's style to eff with the media. Who knows, maybe it's something new.

My own feeling is that the Jazz are in a position to hone in and focus on getting a quality scorer/stretch-4 more than other teams in the lottery. In other words, the Jazz would value a guy like Porzingis more than other teams, and this creates the potential for a trade to occur. The Jazz are in a strong position with what they have already, and so they can play with house money a bit.

It sounds like the market for Porzingis is softening, and the Jazz might be able to play without giving up Favors.

Favors has come up in trade rumors around draft time before. It happens practically every year.

I would only trade Favors in a deal for Towns or Russell. Not sure about Okafor.

It truly becomes official when guys start tweeting THROWBACK THURSDAY on their Jazz pictures.

Hopefully that doesn't happen.

I haven't read thru this entire thread but I don't wanna change our PF from Favors to Millsap. Now I really like Millsap and loved him in a Jazz uni, but I love Favors game. His jump shot from 18 ft or so was absolute money, this improvement is huge for his game. I think he can stretch the defense enough to allow him and Rudy to work well together. Not to mention that Favors is a better defender and not even in his prime. Plus Favors wants to stay in Utah, thats a plus.

Really hope this isnt true, I'd hate to see Favors go

Do it. Do it now.

Thats the thing is they can't. They would be trading away a solid PF for an unproven rookie, then hope to sign Milsap when FA starts, and possibly be left with Booker as the starting 4. And if they do trade, they should keep #12. Favors/Burke for #4 and maybe Calderon. Not a fan, but I do think DL knows what he's doing. If he does make a trade, I bet it ends up being a pretty good one.

You do not trade a mobile, athletic, improving 6'10" two-way player for a draft pick and a chance at a free agent.

I'm inclined to believer that while DL is intrigued by the possibility of structuring the roster to allow the flexibility to play small ball, that he is wise enough to realize that, while small ball appears to be a growing fad at the moment, it may or may not have staying power. The best comparison I have is the NFL in which analysts were forever talking about the trend toward mobile running quarterbacks (a la RGIII and Kapernick), but I think we're seeing that this trend lacked staying power. It would be foolish to discard a young, emerging star on a great contract to commit fully to a style of play that may just be a passing fad (at least in terms of the primary way teams play) and which hasn't yet been shown to work on a long-term basis.

This rumors is dog ****. Jennessey is still peeved we did not trade Favors for Wiggins. This fool, he thinks jazz turn that down not Cleveland.

Is he still fat and smoke pit friend? I remember he disappears for a while.

Much rather have a Milsap, Favors, Gobert front court. It isn't about size with small ball as much as it is players that can guard multiple positions and move with the lateral quickness of a small players. Move Hayward and the 12 for a top pick.

Burn your draft assets of you believe in the guy that much and sign a (slightly) younger free agent who fits the culture they're building. Jazz current roster is playoff worthy. Add Carroll and Porzingis and that's a really strong group to develop for the future.

Plus, if you miss on your draft pick, it doesn't cripple your team. Signing a +30 PF on a near max contract while the rest of the team is young and developing seems just as risky as putting all your hope in a draft pick. Don't compound one bad move (trading Favors) by making another (replacing him with Millsap.)

I don't buy this. The only way replacing Favors with Millsap makes sense is if we traded Favors/#12 for a young superstar who is under contract long-term & will help us win now. No way are we trading him for an unproven rookie. I learned a long time ago not to believe rumors about the Jazz until after it happens. No way would one of the most tight lipped franchises in all of sports would allow something of this magnitude to leak. My guess is it's just some reporter(s) looking for more clicks/traffic/publicity before the draft.
