Rumor: Jazz willing to trade Burks to move up into top-3

I'm thinking the Bucks are the only ones we'll be able to trade with (possibly orlando if Jabari falls to them).

Cavs should just play it safe and draft #1, we don't have enough to offer them anyway.

76ers want Wiggins and I don't think they want to move down, they want to move up more.

I don't like it. Alec Burks has some known elite skills, getting to the rack and drawing fouls, and we really only saw him play last season, where he put up 18 pts per 36 in a reserved and conservative role in a slow paced offense that is harder for his style of play.

Burks had some really impressive college #'s as well.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/alec-burks-1.html

His per 40 in his sophomore season had him putting up 26.1 pts per game, and getting to the line over 10.1 x a contest!!!! I demand to see the kid in a faster tempo offense, higher up the totem pole, and as a starter before we trade him away.

I wouldn't do that deal because Jabari is not a guaranteed superstar. I think Alec could be a 20 pt scorer if he was more of the focus of the team especially if the Jazz run more. Then you want to give them Exum or Vonleh or Gordon. Anyone of those players could be just as good as Parker. Then you want to throw in the 2017 pick. I personally don't think DL is that dumb. I just think this is another internet Parker rumor started because he is Mormon and therefore he would be a great fit in Utah.

I with Sexual Favors on this. This is way too much to give up for Parker.

Marvin may be re-signed, the Jazz have the #5 pick in the draft, Tomic may come over, and the Jazz have additional cap space. There are a number of plausible scenarios that have one or or both Burks and Kanter coming off the bench and/or playing less.

Marvin could be re-signed, but it would be a scaled down contract. Also, his role would be reduced. Burks and Kanter would be RFAs at season's end, and so they would need, and want to see as much of them as possible. Marvin has value, but the data last year clearly tells Burks and Kanter outperformed him. His veteran presence could be even more valuable off the bench playing alongside all of our potential rookies: #5, #23, #35, Neto, and Tomic.

Tomic won't be prepared to start and play 82 games. If they see him as a starter, I am sure he will be worked into that role, having to earn it, and not thrown into it. Remember, Tomic has only ever played 20 something minutes like once a week. How is he going to go from that to starters minutes without a hitch?

Who at #5 is ready to start from day 1? Who are they beating out? #5 has a lot of players w/ a lot of upside. Not players who'd be ready or deserving of starting on day 1. Starting Trey all last year was done because the other options were JLIII, Tinsley, and eventually Garrett. Kanter and Burks are farther along than everyone available at #5. Some at #5 may have more upside, but I am sure Jazz won't just hand over the keys like they did with Trey. Different situation.

Cap space - yes, we have it, but who are we grabbing that deserves to start of Kanter and Burks? If we're not contending soon, we should be developing, otherwise, we are "skipping steps." Also, the FO could ink Hayward, Kanter and Burks this offseason, which would have Hayward, and favors on non rookie deals, and kanter and burks the following year. It's a tricky time to be bringing on free agents of significant value, unless their deals are very short.

I think the most likely scenario is we see

Trey
Alec
Gordon
Enes
Favors

As a starting unit, at least until the trade deadline.

AS far as I know, neither RJ nor Marvin have been re-signed, so wouldn't that make Kanter and Favors the starting bigs and Hayward and Burks the starting wings? Who are they stuck behind?

Didn't you hear? Jazz are chasing Coach Engellend just to make sure RJ comes back.

For serious now, there are more unknowns than knowns for this jazz team today. I'll admit I can see a scenario where Kanter and Burks start for the Jazz, but in my mind it is an unlikely scenario. It becomes more unlikely if Hayward and Favors are still on the team and healthy. There are reasons why the Fabulous Five played limited minutes together last season, and changing out Corbin for Snyder only takes care of a few of them.

Dennis Lindzey has lots of decisions to make, and if one of those decisions is to draft Jabbarri or Wiggins and bring Hayward back then Burks will need to go.

One thing seems pretty clear to me: if this rumor is true, that the jazz are willing to trade Burks, then it means the jazz have talked to Cleveland about getting the #1 pick. Cleveland loves playing the rumor game and can't keep private conversations private.

Reason to do the trade:
Jazz may view Hayward as a better SG than Burks and Jazz don't think he'll be a decent SF.
Parker becomes #1 option, allowing others to thrive as 2nd and 3rd options.

Reason not to do trade:
Not enough separation between Parker and Vonleh or Gordon. Why give up two players, including one who can be a starter, for a player with questionable defensive aptitude.

He might not have passed as much, but I wouldn't call him an unwilling passer. You could argue that with better players around him he'll get more assists. Parker was trying to do everything for that duke team.

Rodney hood was on that team bro, another potential lottery pick.

So one player?

No. That Duke team was a pretty decent team, tbh. Sulaimon, Cook, and Jefferson were also legit. Sulaimon, Hood, and Dawkins also shot above 40% from 3, while Cook shot 37%.

He had options, he just didn't utilize them. It was also very clear that his defense was the deciding factor in the Mercer game.

If the Cavs take Embiid and we trade up to 2; then we must draft Wiggins. There will be some growing pains but Wiggins can get into the paint and will and has the size and skill to become a great scorer. Also he is a good defender who can become a great one. As for the trade Burks, #5, #23 and a future #1 seems reasonable to me. Though you could put Kanter or Burke in there if the Bucks would take them.

cj miles > m williams

and cheaper

Off topic but did you see the rumors out of OKC after they got knocked no out of the playoffs? Sign CJ miles was at the top of their offseason plans.

On topic-- any deal with the Bucks will be bringing contracts back. Do you like OJ mayo or Ersan Ilysova better?

Hate to say it but if we do find a trade partner for Parker, they are going to ask for either Favors or Burks, not Kanter. They will also want next years 1st, not the GS 23. Do we love Parker that much?

Yes. We need a star potential #1 option player. We will only get better next year and wot be in the best position to draft another next year.

This... it's going to cost a lot to move up. I'd do it for Embiid or Wiggins.

I would consider Favors for that because:

He is plateauing in development.
He has a questionable motor (reference MIL game, etc.)
Is short for a C, and underoffensed for a PF
Gobert has serious potential. Posted 13 REB and 3.4 BLK per 36 last year.
If we suck again next year, that draft is full of big men.

Would trade him and #5 in a heartbeat for Wiggins.

Cavs, Bucks, Sixers all stink and they need a franchise player.
This may be only time they can all get one in the same year.

This is true. Cavs have Irving who is an all star. They need a rim protector. Theory is Favors, #5, and #23. They do it because they get their rim protection, and another potential all star @ 5. We do it because we get Wiggins.

Bucks need a rim protector since Sanders is up in smoke. They have a promising SF in Giannis, but they don't have any pieces on their team that would justify them moving back. They don't have enough clay to build with, and since the hardest thing to acquire is franchise talent, they're staying put.

Sixers have MCW, Noel, and Young. All are, or will be decent, but none will be great. They're staying put, unless they decide they don't want anyone but Wiggins, and there #2 option is Vonleh or someone who could be had later.

Ironically, I could kind of see the Cavs trading the pick. It seems like something they'd do. But then again, I doubt it. If Wiggins or Embiid turned into franchise players, and they traded the pick, there would be riots in Cleveland.
