Sacremento 8?

I've seen it thrown out a couple of times that the King's pick would be available for cap relief. Is that really all it would take? Do the Jazz have a better place to spend their budget than acquiring the 8th pick? Why not?

If we did get it who do you take with the 5 and who with the 8?

Trade Favors and 5 for Wiggins.

Trade Burke and Kanter for 8 and take Payton.

We would get two players who are long, athletic, skilled and play defense.

Payton-Burks-Wiggins-whoever-Gobert

We'd suck but I could buy into that team.

You're trading Kanter and Burke for Elfrid Payton? I'd rather trade 5 and 8 for #1 and keep Favors. I'd even throw in the 23rd pick.

Would like to trade into the top three, and get one of the power forwards with the 8th pick if we trade to it. Hell, even embodied might be available if his slide is that bad.

Cap relief ?

whos their worst contract??

Carl Landry is owed 20 mil over the next 3 seasons. Jason Thompson is at 19 mil for 3 seasons, Jayson Terry and Derrick Williams are owed a combined 13mil next year so i guess some combination of those players can be a salary dump.

#8 is a steep price to pay.

If its Derrick Williams, Jayson Terry,Carl Landry and #8 for #23 i guess i could see that working.. The Jazz can absorb those players on the roster for a year

The Jazz could draft Vonleh, Aaron Gordon and maybe PJ Hairston at 35.

Burke - Terry - Garrett
Hayward - Burks -
Gordon - Hairston
Vonleh - Kanter - Evans
Favors - Kanter - Gobert

That would be a disaster of a trade for the Jazz. Payton isn't worth both Trey and Kanter. I would trade Burke, a future #1 and take back a bad contract. That would allow Kings to go out and sign a major free agent vet they covet.

If the Jazz were able to get the #8 pick I would stay at #5 and take either Exum/Smart and #8 pick either Gordon, Vonleh or Randle. At 23 I would take best available Wilcox, Clarkson, Payne, Warren etc.

So are we tanking again?

Don't think we ever stopped.

I do think that management is done tanking. Now that they have their coach of the future in place, I think that DL will do whatever he can to put the best talent in place for the coaches to use without skipping steps in the process.

They're going to fully invest in the young guys, add more young guys and not fill the roster with worthless filler like Biedrins, Jefferson, JLIII or Rush.

They won't win a ton because they're young and learning a whole new system, but they won't be deliberately bad either. They're going to grow this team from the ground up and that hurts while you're trying to get the roots established.

I know my suggestion is not a fan favorite and I can't blame you guys but imo, Burke and Kanter are so limited in so many ways that they're of no use to me if I'm the GM, other than as trade assets.

I think Payton will be a top five player from this draft ten years from now. He's got size, length, athleticism, skill, comes from a small school which I think is more of an advantage than disadvantage, and maybe most importantly, comes from a lineage. If you look at second generation pro athletes, they succeed far, far greater than just the regular pro. They've been groomed their whole life on how to be a pro and what it's going to take to not just make it, but make it for a long time by maximizing their ability. This will be Payton imo and I don't think my last sentiment should go unnoticed by our FO.

My ideal situation would be to come out of this a week or so from now with Wiggins, Payton and Favors as the core of our team going forward.

Kanter, Burke, Hayward and Burks are all on the table. Favors should be too but he's the guy I really want to keep. Sadly, to get Wiggins, that's probably not possible.

I already made a post about this months ago. Kanter for the 8th.. 8th and 5th for the 1. Peace

Love Payton. . . but not at 8.

To be perfectly honest, I only like the idea of getting Derrick Williams and/or Jason Thompson back from the Kings. Landry and Terry are both too old and have too much money tied up in future years to make it a good idea. Thompson, Williams and one or the other might be worth it, but I think that's a hard sell for them.

I'd probably just look at picking up Lin and the 25th pick instead. I'd certainly be willing to have both of those conversations.

Just for argument's sake, let's say that the Jazz did take on Williams, Thompson and Terry for #8.

I'd want them to end up with Aaron Gordon and probably Marcus Smart. Get better on defense in a hurry.

I think sac wants to get a solid vet and get rid of a few of their undersized or mediocre PFs, more than just cap relief
