I looked into the teams who will have salary cap problems and may be looking to salary dump some players contracts as well as some other potential trade candidates.

Atlanta Hawks

According to Windhorst, Atlanta’s management is under a mandate to get under the luxury tax. They are a team prime to try to shed some salary.

Salary dump options:

John Collins - 25.3M this year and has 3/77.5M left on his contract. The last year of his deal has a player option.

Bogdan Bogdanovic - 18.7M this year and has 4/68M left on his contract. The last year of his deal has a team option.

Other trade options:

Dejounte Murray - 17.7M this year and his contract is expiring.

De’Andre Hunter - 20M this year and has 4/90M left on his contract.

Collins would likely come with an asset or two. Bogdanovic I’m not entirely sure if he has positive/negative trade value it could be neutral. It depending on what comes with either but I would be interested. We would have to send assets for Dejounte and Hunter. I think I would prefer Dejounte but I am super high on Hunter too. They seem like a prime trade candidate for us.

Boston Celtics

Salary dump options:

Malcolm Brogdon - 22.5M this year and has 2/45M left on his contract.

It’s reported that Brogdon’s elbow injury is worse than being reported. He would come with an asset. I could see this happening but we’d have to feel decent about his health and it depends on what comes with it. I would definitely consider it and think we could flip him next year to a contender and he will be an expiring salary as well.

Dallas Mavericks

Tim Hardaway Jr - 17.9M this year and 2/34M left on his contract.

They dealt Bertans on draft night and took Holmes back. That created a little more room for them. If they wanted more room for FA and a TPE this could definitely be an option. He would come with an asset. I would do it depending on what came with him. I think he could be a nice expiring salary next year that we could flip next year.

Golden State Warriors

Salary dump options:

Gary Payton II - 8.7M this year and 2/18M left on his contract. The last year of his deal has a player option.

Other trade options:

Jonathan Kuminga - 6M this year and 2/13.7M left on his contract. The last year of his deal has a team option.

They are in cap hell and I’m sure wouldn’t mind the savings that came with dealing Payton II. I don’t know how much if anything would come with him but I would take absorb his salary. Kuminga could be added for even more savings but we’d have to send an asset back if he is included. I would be interested in both of them.

Los Angeles Clippers

Salary dump options:

Marcus Morris Sr - 17.1M this year and his contract is expiring.

Robert Covington - 11.7M this year and his contract is expiring.

Nicolas Batum - 11.7M this year and his contract is expiring.

Other trade options:

Norman Powell - 18M this year and 3/58.7M left on his contract.

Another team in salary cap hell. They are another prime trade candidate as I’m sure they would like to deal one or two of these guys to get cap savings. The first three likely come with an asset but I would consider just absorbing Covington’s contract. With Powell we would have to add an asset to get him and I don’t know if they want to move him but I would be interested.

Miami Heat

Salary dump options:

Kyle Lowry - 29.7M this year and his contract is expiring.

Duncan Robinson - 18.2M this year and 3/57.4M left on his contract. The last year of his deal is only 9.9M guaranteed.

Victor Oladipo - 9.5M this year and his contract is expiring.

They are another team I could see as a good trade candidate for us as they will likely be looking to shed some salary. All three players come with an asset and Robinson might come with multiple. I would definitely consider all three players depending on what the deal was.

Other Trade Candidates:

Washington Wizards

Tyus Jones - 14M this year and his contract is expiring.

Monte Morris - 9.8M this year and his contract is expiring.

Delon Wright - 8.2M this year and his contract is expiring.

Washington has a major logjam at guard and will be looking to move one or two of these guys. We would have to send an asset for Tyus but the other two we could likely just absorb their contracts without sending much back. I would definitely be interested in all three.

Milwaukee Bucks

Pat Connaughton - 9.4M this year and 3/28.3M left on his contract.

Grayson Allen - 8.5M this year and his contract is expiring.

Milwaukee could be looking for some salary cap relief if they are able to retain both Middleton and Lopez. Pat likely comes with an asset and I would consider absorbing Allen’s contract without sending anything significant back. Portis is another guy they could move but I don’t think they want to do I didn’t include him.

Philadelphia 76ers

Tobias Harris - 39.3M this year and his contract is expiring.

There was a report today that Morey is being unrealistic about his trade value but they could create a huge TPE and cap space by trading him. We were reportedly interested in him so there could be some potential there for a deal there but it doesn’t seem likely at the moment.

Brooklyn Nets

Dorian Finney-Smith - 13.4M this year and 3/43.2M left on his contract.

They were reportedly looking to move him and Royce during the draft. A Royce reunion doesn’t seem realistic at all but we were reportedly interested in DFS at the trade deadline. We would have to send an asset back to get him. I would be very interested depending on the the deal.

Is there anyone I missed that you could see being in play? What are some thoughts on the players mentioned?

Good list. I feel like a lot of teams are going to be trying to get off bad contracts. Other dump possibilities for assets; Mo Bamba, Joe Harris, Patty Mills, Ricky Rubio, Lonzo Ball, Thaddeus Young, Otto Porter, Taurean Prince.

Joe Harris on Brooklyn… 1 year 19M swap with KO or THT gets them under the tax.

Evan Fournier on NY… 1 year 18M… not likely a tax team but this saves money and allows them to use exceptions.

Most of these just net some seconds… which we need so whatevs.

It looks like we could benefit the most from doing a deal with Atlanta.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see teams try to move guys that are in line for big contracts next offseason if they’re not planning to extend them. It might be easier to do a trade now - instead of at the trade deadline.

My love for De Andre Hunter hasn’t diminished… I’d take him in a heart beat , awesome 2 way player , never gets much action in Atlanta due to the chucker and the rest getting there’s .

Definitely take him in a dump scenario .

I'll put this on record. Harris does nothing for us that Hendricks won't be able to do, and maybe a bit better. If we're partaking in a dump for assets, I'd rather it not interfere with the kids' playing time.

It doesn’t have to have any conditions attached. This statement alone stands for itself.
Entire quote.

And yeah, I'll stand by that.

Don’t think it makes sense right now. This is a developmental year. We can really see what we have with THT, Agbaji, the rookies and hell, even Dunn to a far lesser extent.

Problem is we will be extremely far from the salary cap floor unless we do something.

Would you unprotected our 2024 pick to OKC for V. Micic? It’s said OKC wants an unprotected first for him so I don’t know if that’s enough.

I'd love to get Tobias Harris here. I've only really liked him since he was at Tennessee. He'd be a great fit and it'd be interesting to see him on a team where he more of an active role
