Scary time in STG today

Armed robbery (with firearm and sawed-off shotgun) of a Zions Bank just up the street from my house.

Robber took two hostages and fled.

Schools went into lockdown.

I have kids in 3 different schools and two of them came home while the last (2nd grader) was still locked down because the suspect was on foot and near the school. Canines, helicopters, insane amounts of cops all over the school area.

They caught up to the guy and I don't know all the specifics, but he got shot in the head.

All kids home safe.

Glad to hear all the kids made it home safely. Scary as hell I can well imagine.

Happy to hear the kids are all safe.

Also on a light note, isnt a sawed off shotgun a firearm?

Whitnee Holt, who lives in the area near where police found the suspect, said she was listening to a police scanner in her home with a friend when they both suddenly heard an exchange of gunfire outside.

We heard a series of other gunshots and then my husband came in and said ‘Get down!’
“I looked to my friend and said, ‘I think those are gunshots,’” Holt said, “and then we heard a series of other gunshots and then my husband came in and said ‘Get down!’ and so we all got down. We then looked out the window and saw paramedics coming down the road.”

Standard pasttime in STG, listening to police scanners on a random afternoon.

I have a scanner app on my phone and listen to it all the time. I listened to Boston's scanner right when the bombers hit that marathon -- it was crazy. There is so much that goes on that doesn't get reported.

What is the app? Does it work overseas? Might be interesting in other countries too.

Don't know the name, but just search for "police scanner" in the App Store; there are tons of them. Most are free.

It's always a treat to listen to LAPD.

All over Southern Utah. I know of people in Beaver, Kane, Sevier, Iron and Washington counties that do that all the time.

Oh I fully admit it can be interesting and I have done that too, but doing this at random times in SLC and Ogden and even in Vegas didn't yield much so I just can't imagine that it would in the STG. Of course, that was proven wrong with this incident, so you never know. I just would bet there are a lot of "hey Bob did you get out there to get that cow out of the cattle guard, it's been blocking that road for a while" "yeah, I'll git out that-away soon as I finish up here at the trailer park, Peggy-sue done locked Cletus out of the trailer again and is threatening to kick him out for real this time".

Of course, just north of Reno is purportedly the largest trailer park city in the country, Sun Valley. :)

Gotta love stereotyping!

Alot of it is mundane but there are alot of noisy people out there.

Standard pasttime in STG, listening to police scanners on a random afternoon.

Well, it beats listening to Kentucky radio stations for any news about Calipari or his recruits.

Seriously, scary stuff...glad to hear PKM's kids are safe. Shortly after I moved to LA, there was a shooting right outside my apartment complex. Heard the shots as I was leaving to do some grocery shopping. Came back and learned the poor victim had collapsed almost right in front of the parking lot gate.

The Sheriff out my way talks less than Cal Coolidge ever did, on his happy days. I got the police scanner so I could actually listen to real people.

After several days of having it on while I had nothing else to do, I gave up.

I don't know how he does it, but everybody likes him, even the ex-con drugrunner down the road who buries his guns three miles away from his house in the sage.
