So I am just curious. How many of you out there would be happy if we hired Scottie Skiles as our coach. He's only 50 and he is a defensive minded coach. (He also has the most assists in a single game Which sort of belongs to Stockton.)

So what you think? Skiles as the next head coach?

Yeah I like Skiles. I like both Van Gundy's too. But I don't think the Jazz will hire a known commodity.

Scott Skiles hasn't shown to develop young players. Plays vets a lot in his coaching career. Not a fan.
Stan Van Gundy is the master of panic. I agree with Shaq.

Jeff Van Gundy I actually like.

I've been wrong one other time in my life, but I don't think DL will bring in a veteran coach. From the hints on interviews, I think he brings in an analytics freak who hasn't been a head coach before.

Yea Dennis will be swinging for the fences. He's not going to play it safe. Skiles isn't sexy, he is safe.

There are rumors that Rick Adelman may step down this year in Minny. I think he's respectable and seasoned. His Sacramento and Houston teams were well run.

I like Skiles demeanor; but if you look at his coaching record over the years, you'll his teams plateau pretty quickly and then start to go down hill. My guess is players just tune out his tough talk after a while

Heck no to Skiles, as has been said he hasn't been impressive in his 3 coaching stints and wears out his welcome pretty quickly. The only thing good about him is his quotes. If you wanted good quotes Stan Van is a better coach but I wouldn't want him that much either. Jazz' best chance to keep a coach long term is to do what they tried to do with Corbin and try to go for a young coach and let him grow with the team and be loyal to him early when he may struggle in hopes he will return that loyalty and stay and not bolt for LA, BOS, NY, CHI etc...

Also no the Vinny.

Vinny seems a choice because of the Spus ties with DL.
How about Nate McMillan? If I remember it right Sloan was impressed and liked him while Nate was Portland's coach.

Wouldn't hate Vinny. Won 56 games with the Clippers (Doc only did 1 better this year). I think he is a better coach than when he first entered the league.

I would suspect we could have either Del Negro or McMillan if we wanted them. Probably either of the Van Gundys as well. Jazz job is not a stepping stone, so I wouldn't worry about any coaching hire getting poached. I'm not sure any of the NBA head coaching opportunities are. There are some you would take over others if given the chance and Utah has to be high on that list.
