I think it's fair to say that the Jazz have gone all-in this offseason, and are very much building their team according to the teams they think they'll run into when making a playoff-run. As constituted, we're making a lot of pick-ups that satisfy a lot of roles commonly seen on championship teams. We now have our iso-guard who can make buckets out of broken-offence, our release-valve veteran guard who can D up and make great decisions late in the game, and we have our passing vet big who has made a career out of making players around him better. Joe provides team chemistry, Hayward the unquestioned leader, Rudy brings the attitude, Burks is our microwave. Etc.

While Rudy probably has more attitude and swagger than the rest of our squad combined, he's an insanely important player to us & we can't afford to always have him being the team enforcer throughout the season and playoffs. To me, it's the last "hole" in our offence, really. An energetic player who'll cause disruptions, work hard, and not back down from anyone. Things like rebounding, hustle-plays, and maybe even the odd three would be total bonuses.

Some mentioned Bolomboy as maybe fitting this role-- but it's quite obvious how raw he is from looking at these summer league games.

With Pleiss and Neto/Mack being our most very obvious weak links on the roster, I'm definitely shopping them for enforcer-types if I'm Dennis Lindsey. This really is the year we make our stamp on the league. So who has ideas with players we should target? How will this impact the extensions we can make on players like Favors and Rudy and Hayward?

Pleiss is number 1 to trade for me and it's not even really close IMO.

Let him go and don't sign Bolomboy? Then bring in an onery jerk as 5-6th big?

Idea 1:

PHX trades: PJ Tucker

Jazz trade: 2018 Jazz 2nd round pick.

Why Phoenix does it: Phoenix gets to keep their pick in an insanely stacked draft if they finish bottom-3 in the NBA this year. Also, TJ Warren gets more rotation minutes at SF now (where he played quite well and shot a good percentage last season). They also get a potentially good 2nd rounder in 2018.

Why Utah does it: Utah might be competing with other teams in the NBA (like the Warriors) in securing PJ. He gives us energy, attitude, defence, and another wrinkle in case one of our players goes down. I figure he'll have added motivation if he gets shipped off to a true playoff team. Also, we'll have taken in a lot of young players in the previous draft & I don't think there'll be any more roster room for 2nd round picks on the roster. Tucker can play the 2, the 3, and the 4. More versatility for Quin.

Ideally i'd give up either Neto or Pleiss for Tucker but I'm not sure the Suns have use for either of em. We'd probably have to trade them for 2nd rounders to other teams around the league.

Hill/Exum/Mack
Hood/Burks
Hayward/JJ/Ingles/Tucker
Favors/Lyles/Diaw
Gobert/Withey

That's 14. PJ only has one year, 5.3 million left on his contract-- but I'm sure we can get someone to replace him through the 2017 draft (or trading a pick for an asset). We still need to find homes for either Pleiss or Neto.

TBH, and I know I'll get flamed for this, but this is why I would consider trading Burks, whose defense pretty much blows and who has just never seemed to "fit" for Rondae Hollis Jefferson. Kid could be an elite defender and hit the three as a rookie better than expected. He could be a bulldog for us.

Is James Johnson a guy like this?

potentially-- but his defence really didn't look that good in the postseason this past year. It's harder to pry away players like him from teams already in the playoff hunt though. It's easier prying them away from lottery teams who don't really need their services.

we don't need defence from Burks, we have 3 other guards who can fit that. This team needs scoring at the 2 way more.

No thanks.

Lance Stephenson?

yikes

29%? I guess that's almost 10% higher than his college stats.

Tony Allen?

Kendrick Perkins?

Ron Artest?

While I'm half joking about the last one, it would be interesting to see a guy like Metta World Peace end up in Utah. He knows Quin from their Lakers days, and seems (by all accounts) to have been a positive influence in the locker room.

Bring some crazy in... hell yes!

WTF? Why would we trade Unreal Mechanics?

We don't need defense from a player? Really? Diaw and Lyles are hardly an imposing frontline off the bench and we don't want to simply trade baskets and Burks blows defensively. As far as needing offense, I don't think that's the case either. Lyles and Johnson can each score a lot and spread the floor. Diaw is more than capable. Exum, imo, is gonna be improved light years from two seasons ago. To me, RHJ would fit with what we're trying to do here.
