Selling Your Car

Anyone sold their car recently online or in person?

I'm dreading going through this process, because I figure it's
a bad time to be selling. We are leaving the country in a few months,
and I don't want to have to keep the car(03' corolla S) in storage.

I'm looking at Auto Trader.com It's 30 dollars for an ad.
Anyone had luck selling through them? Don't want to spent that
money if they are really a long shot.

Any other online companies that are worth looking into?
Selling the dealer completely worthless?

I'll rep anyone that has any info to share. Thank you.

Use Craigslist to save some dough. I sell a lot of cars private party and I always use KSL (local to utah) and Craigslist and they've never failed me. I would never pay for Autotrader. Definitely don't sell to a dealer unless you're desperate.

Please don't treat me as your personal rep whore...

I've had a harder time buying used things than selling things since the recession started. I was shopping for a used camp trailer on KSL and I couldn't get to a good deal fast enough. Decent used trailers were literally selling in 15 minutes. It was like people were refreshing their screens every 30 seconds and jumping on stuff right away. My experience is if you have taken care of something then it will sell quickly if you're asking a fair price. It's the beaten up garbage and the stuff that someone has used but is asking a new price for that nobody wants.

We have free clasifieds on KSL.com in Utah (a news service). I think most people who use it have really appreciated it. I'd look for something similar in your area or craigslist it.

Used both AutoTrader & KSL to about equal success. Try KSL for a bit, if that doesn't work double up and use AutoTrader as a backup. Both worked great for me. On KSL try and re-up your ad once a day or every other day so it goes to the top the list.

I haven't sold a car, ever, but I've sold several things on KSL. Craiglist doesn't exist (it does, I'm just saying) in Utah because everyone uses KSL.

thanks to everyone's replies. rep'd everyone.

I think I'm going to use craig's list first, if there is no action in a few weeks maybe an auto trader ad.

I sold mine two months ago. I made for sale signs from cardboard and had it in the street/driveway during the day. I sold it in a week. I was happy that I didn't have to put it in the newspaper. I got about three calls total and it was a pain in the *** showing it to people, but no way in hell was I trading that in. I also made an advertisement on photo paper with two pictures of the car and the features and had my neighbors put that up in their work. I didn't get any calls on that but it was worth a shot. I posted it on Craigslist and got a few e-mails. One guy tried to lowball me, probably a reseller. Some of the e-mails I noticed had xxxx@hondaparts.com as their e-mail, or something like that. I didn't want my baby to be stripped!

So Im turning in my lease at the end of the month...

Im going to buy used:

These are my choices..

2007 BMW 3 Series.
2008-2009 Mazda3 Hatchback.
2008-2009 VW GTI

Any opinions?

Wow, why such limited options? Skip the BMW completely. Way too expensive for what it is. You're not a girl (are you?), so the Mazda3 is out of the question (Mazdaspeed3, however...) The GTI is a fun car, just be prepared for expensive repair bills and electrical problems (from what I hear.) Have you considered Subaru? The WRX is similar to the GTI and has AWD (if you care since you're in Cali) and Subaru's are 50 times more reliable than VW.

Don't need to apologize to me. But that 2007 3-Series will almost certainly be more expensive than an 07 or 08 Impreza WRX. If you're seriously limited to those three options go for the GTI.
