Game Thread September 1, 2020: Jazz at Nuggets - Game 7

Added to Calendar: 09-01-20

All I want the Jazz to do now is get rid of O'neal, Ingles, Niang and Conley (hope he opts out). Resign Clarkson but very doubtful he would. Like I said, I'm taking a year off nba with whole mess going on, Jazz being crappy and the Warriors returning next season with vengeance.

Weird post. Jingles and Royce are good role players. We are probably expecting too much out of them. We’re paying Conley how much again? Just half the money wasted on Conley could give us a starting wing which would allow us to bring Jingles or Royce off the bench.

We need more skilled size. Not having favors was so glaring
This. Jazz roster is small and fast but with a Coach's style of half court basketball, the small quick guards can't capitalize.

Clarkson's taste of playoffs means he has to concentrate on defense and not avoid fouling. I see him holding his hands on his back as if to tell, look, I didn't foul him, when all that does is make his guy score.

yeah right, BRUTAL... coupled with that wasted timeout/.... but kudos to Gary Harris for making those plays happen... Or idk maybe u can blame coach for not drawing up a better play...
Kudos to Harris for the refs not calling two fouls on the last drive by Don? Is it also kudos to Plumlee for getting a free slap on Rudy's face?

We’re stuck with Conley and a little buyer’s remorse. Snyder on the other hand - I’d swap him out for Atkinson in a heartbeat!
We got down too far in the first half. It takes a lot of energy to get out of that hole. Spida was gassed, Conley sucked and Joe and Royce were MIA. Our bench yet again did not help. I don't know what Mudiay did to Quin but he could have helped in that dreadful first half. I guess I'm proud of the guys for coming back. I'm just pissed right now. The trades didn't work.

This game would have been a total ****-show if Mitchell didn't go super saiyan in the 3rd quarter while also locking down Murray. Unfortunately, Mitchell getting tired from doing all that was inevitable.

What's inexcusable is Conley getting paid $30M+ to brick threes all day and shoot 2/13 from the floor smh.

Man I miss Bojan so much.

I miss last year’s team. We would’ve kicked the **** out of them. Joker would’ve gotten worn down by Favors and a Gobert swatting his fat *** around.

Jae would’ve knocked Murray on his *** by game 3 and sent a message to him that he wasn’t gonna punk us.

We were a much stronger and tougher team last year. We’d be getting ready for game 2 or 3 of the clippers series by now.

Congrats to Denver Nuggets. They are the better team and deserve to win it all.

For the Jazz, I don't think getting behind by double digits early in the contest and then playing catch up the entire game is the way you want to play a Game 7.
F’ it I’m rooting for our Rocky Mountain neighbors to shock the NBA and win it all now. Nothing but respect!

How tradeable is Conley? I wouldn't mind if we traded hims for pennies on the millions.
Not very really. Maybe we find a team with a longer contract looking to start over. Guys like Julius Randle, Terry Rozier, Kevin Love, Al Horford, and Harrison Barnes might be swapped if their teams want more long term cap clearing.

Realistically, I'm looking at Conley to Detroit for Tony Snell. Saves us $22 million. Not exciting, but we clear space, keep Clarkson, and use the full MLE.

Well said!

Steps to improve:

1. We desperately need to find a way to move Conley. Move Mitchell to the PG spot. Get another 2 or 3 who can run. Conley and Mitchell cannot coexist and their size makes us a defensive liability. Conley’s contract and age is toxic. You’ve gotta move that thing **** ASAP. Get on the horn with someone stupid, like the kings or knicks and unload that massive disaster.

2. We desperately need a 4 who can spot Rudy some time. That’s why I found Favors to be perfect. He could start at the 4 and/or be rudy coming off the bench. The drop off between Davis/Bradley this year from favors was something astonishing.
can’t see any way to move Conley at 35mil...

it won't matter if you only bring positives on some areas but being net negative overall. like people been trashing Rudy all series on his offense despite his elite defense, and you think we are supposed to excuse Conley for his choke job on offense tonight? doesn't matter if it's offense or defense, as long as your negatives outweigh the positives, you are a liability to the team and deserve all the criticism.
So, what are the positives vs neggatives acording to you?. Obviously, the ball didn't go in. But he played great D, found his teammates and got his hands on loose balls and rebounds. Is D worth less than O?

Even though Atkinson is best known for his player development, I doubt he can develop the likes of Niang and Morgan into NBA caliber wing who can jump up and down the court. Height and athleticism is not something a coach can teach. we have screwed our coach with players of low physical upside that lack room for development.
