Shannon Brown?

With Wesley Matthews contract offer on the table I think we have to see if Shannon Brown would come to Utah, he is about the same size as Matthews, but this guy is a freak athletically, has a really nice jump shot, and can hit the 3 just as well or better then Matthews and so far he has gone under the radar in free agency. Brown could play both guard positions and would be a nice back up to Williams because he is the same size and also could slide over and catch a couple alley-oops from Deron and hit those corner threes.

Thoughts? If we could sign him for like 4 years for 12 million as part of the MLE?

Then sign Ronnie Brewer to a 4 year remaining of the MLE at about 10 million.

We certainly need to get longer and more athletic. And I like Brown. But in the 20 minutes a game he played this year, his stats leave a lot to be desired. That said, 4 years, 12M is too much imo. 3 years, 7M is an offer I'd consider making.

I would like the Jazz to grab him too for the reason stated above but he just got off of a 2yr/$4.2M contract and will probably need around $3-$3.5M to sway him away from resigning with the lakers who would rather throw a lowball offer @ Farmar. A 3-4yr contract worth $3M would be more economical than matching almost $7M for Wes and we wouldnt lose much production.

Somebody leaving the Lakers for the Jazz...that would be the day. He could probably adequately fill Wes' role at a cheaper price though...

Can't help but think Deron would be pretty happy with the Jazz refusing to overpay for Matthews and bringing in a much cheaper replacement who is still very young yet already has championship experience. Somebody mentioned not liking the numbers Shannon put up in LA. I wouldn't put too much stock in that considering he was the 7th or 8th option on that team. Plus, he also has the ability to slash to the basket and finish once he gets there. That's probably my favorite part of Matthew's game.

We could probably split the MLE and get Brown while also bringing back Brewer. There's not a bigger Matthews fan on this board but I have to admit, I'd take Brown and Brewer over Wes, not to mention that both of them combined would still be cheaper than matching the Portland offer sheet.....

He's still under contract to the Lakers, isn't he? I thought he signed a 2-3 year deal with them last summer.

LOL. I've always liked him, another local kid I've watched since his middle school days. I think he could be great with Deron.

edit: ok, I just checked and see that he's opted out.

I like Brown because not only is he athletic, physical and can defend, he's played in LA the past 2 years so he knows what it's like to play within a system. Also never underestimate the affect being on a championship team and seeing how hard someone like Kobe works has on young players.

Forget what you think he's worth, in this offseason his market value is atleast 3 yrs $10 million. And I'd be fine with that.

my dream offseason would be to sign brown to fill wes's role and eh i didnt really like harrington and have said i would rather get jamison but now that i know his contract situation and all i would rather have harrington at slightly cheaper price and plus harrington sounds determined in the interview. and if we can somehow get bass or gortat.....plz basketball god plz
