What's new

Shelvin Mack

Remember how in love we were with Cotton after his 21 point game last year? He was 3rd string in Atlanta for a reason. Let's calm down until we get a realistic sample size.

There's no comparison. Mack's been an NBA player for five years. Cotton has never made it through a single season with any NBA team. Cotton isn't even close to as good as Mack.

His 36 minutes per over 248 games is: 12.8 pts, 6.5/2.3 assists to turnovers, 1.3 steals, 41.7 overall shooting percentage, 31.7 for 3's, 773 Fts -- so not the greatest shooter but certainly not the worst. He's gotten solid numbers despite sporadic play.

Because he played behind Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroeder? All our PG's would be 3rd stringers on that team.

I was most impressed by the confidence, Mack, displayed. He never looked rushed and was in complete control of the offense from the get go. Also, he has a nice first step and a delayed dribble move that will catch a lot of defenders off balance. Great pick up by the FO. Only cost us a second round pick. Exum will develop and a combo of Mack/Neto off the bench are more than capable to run the offense...plus we have Burks to be the second unit scorer and will average around 30 minutes per game. I see a few 6th man of the year awards in Burks' future.

I agree.
I'm not sold on Mack after 1 game

Good point

His backboard style floater was on point last night.

His block on lillards three was my favorite part of his

Well I suppose its a good thing I didn't bring up one game's statistics. I was wondering this when we traded for him, before he ever even donned a Jazz uniform. I'm taking into account the history he has in the offense, the fact that he is a much better defender than either of our other two PGs, and the relationship he has already built, i.e., trust, with Snyder.

I don't think he's the next coming of Stockton or even DWill, but a solid stop gap defensive minded PG that can help us down the stretch? Maybe.

Also, I never was in love with Cotton, so there's that. Haha.

The guy pimping out everyone-you've-never-heard-of is wanting to calm expectations on guy-you-may-have-heard-of?

Mack never played d league doe.

Is his floater-game sustainable? Really impressive.

Most of them seemed pretty easy. Remember, Lillard isn't a very good defender so I think he was able to get off some easy shots. The only one that was ridiculous was the one he hit going to his left over Ed Davis.

"isn't very good" is putting it lightly. Defense is a pock mark on Lillard's game. He looks clueless sometimes. Other than that, though, he looks like a top-5 player to me. Seriously, his offense is amazing.

Mack played for the Maine Red Claws for quite a few games. We could have signed him for nothing then but this seems like a reasonable trade.

His hesitation game seems almost on par with Hood's after one game. He's not nearly as fast as a lot of PGs, but his girth makes him indefensible by anyone shorter than 6'3". That's going to be valuable in a lot of situations because he can penetrate the perimeter without relying on speed and create opportunities with his defender stuck on his hip (like Hood).

Nice get, DL.
