"Shock Lake City"

Stifle Tower

Punch Bowl Re-Filler
I'm trademarking the phrase now. What KOC and Greg did was shock the NBA world. I've already had some friends here at work (I live in LA) just shake their heads, and mutter "wow" and "unbelievable." Both of them are HUGE Laker fans. Of course they don't think the Jazz will compete against LA (and I don't either...not without another couple of moves). But they both think Jefferson is a helluva player and we should contend for the 2nd seed.

OH and BTW, neither believes Miami has enough size to compete against the Lakers. They could be right.

But back to the topic...

SLC has now become SHOCK LAKE CITY!!!

Yes now the NBA is scared of the UTAH JAZZ that still will have subpar defense.

Who cares about those 3 losers in Miami.

I agree this is a big and good move. I think their Miami opinion just comes from bias. LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Haslem, Miller, Chaumers, Big Z can definitely compete against the Lakers. While the Lakers might have mismatches with their bigs the Heat will have mismatches with LeBron and Wade even if the Lakers add Raja.

This thread is hilarious...Are you kidding me? Miami got 3 of the best 5-7 players in the world and they are adding veterans for the min to build a championship. We lost boozer, korver and wes and we get big useless AL and we've shocked everyone? LOL
Lebron shocked everyone, we're just trying to stay in the game and be competitive...

It's a huge move for Utah. C'mon, everyone was talking lottery 3 days ago.

As for LA,
Kobe vs. Lebron is a wash. And I'd take Gasol over Bosh.
So you have Dwade and scrubs vs. the rest of LA, including Odom, Bynum, Artest, etc. Bynum might very well be the "X" factor. If he's healthy, DWade ain't driving at will like he normally does. He'll get hammered at least 10x between Artest and Bynum.

I don't think Miami is the instant favorite.

Not to split hairs but Bosh isn't one of the best 7 players in the league. So they got two of the top 7 and a top 15 . Also you are up in the night about Jefferson being useless. I have saw you make several posts criticizing Al, as you mentioned we lost Booz, KK and Wes what was a better solution for the Jazz?

First of all, Bynum has to be healthy which he never is around playoff time. I am not buying the Kobe LeBron wash. Kobe has a lot of mileage on those legs and while he is still a great and clutch shooter when he is on, his defense is going to continue to get weaker IMO. Bosh and Gasol might be a wash. Big Z is no more than a role player but that gives them a little bit of height. Haslem is going to continue to be a good player. Overall, the Heat's biggest question was whether they could bring in any kind of supporting cast to the big 3 and it certainly looks like they are. Laker fans can say what they want about height advantage but if Ray Allen doesn't choke in all final games except one or Kendrick Perkins plays in game 7 then we might have a totally different champion.

This was a big move, considering not too long ago some were thinking about building the team back up through the lottery. instead we get a guy that's an upgrade on boozer that can play both the 4 and 5 positions we go back to being one of the better teams in the western confernence.

I'm on record right now...if the Jazz can trade AK's expiring to a non-contender at the deadline for a all-star quality wing (or near all-star), we'll win the WC championship in 2 years. Book it!

thats the timeline when KOC said Hayward would be great. MY god its all making sense now!

Despite the immediate reaction of drafting Hayward, it's still good to see Jazz fans don't overreact.

What guy were you thinking of though?
You never know who will be available. But a lot of non-contenders are always looking to dump payroll at the deadline. We can offer AK's $17.2M deal, and by the 110% rule, only have to take back around $15.5M for the deal to go through. Voila! We could get a starter and a good backup and be right back at the tax level.

IMO, you need 3 "stars" to contend: Deron is the best PG in the NBA. Jefferson is a 20/10 player: that's all-star caliber. So add one more high-quality starter and Utah is legit, especially because you have a very good 4th starter at PF in Millsap. I'd prefer a SG, because I think Hayward is our eventual starter at SF. CJ can back up either spot - as could Brewer, if you put him in the mix. But let CJ have his shot. He seemed to come on late, after getting over his injury.

Preferably we also upgrade behind Deron. Jazz lose too much when Price or Gaines comes in. Maybe a good combo guard would solve the problem.

Glass,

I think you have drank the juice. Getting Jefferson is nice but the Jazz have lost Boozer, KK, Wes and two first round draft picks to get him. Sorry but I need more but it is a start.
