Shoud the Jazz Claim Josh Smith?

First of all the release of Josh Smith is a surprise. Something that is unheard of- Releasing a player less than half way into his contract and paying him the remaining 26 million left in his contract. This is simply a stupid move by Stan Van Gundy, regardless of what is said. Second of all because of his payout he is not expected to earn much more than 3 mil per year, he would have to go to a team that has zero def/offen off the bench. I still don't think he would fit in here in Utah. He would distract our mindset of rebuilding and like most say, take away our yount Pf's time on the court. I agree, I could see Josh Smith doing ok, but not in Utah, best we let this one go.

Josh Smith makes no sense for the Jazz because his use is as a pure 4 where you forbid him to go further than 16 feet from the rim. In a team like the Jazz with 3 quality bigs rotating for 30ish minutes a game, meaning there is only 6/10 minutes left, a guy like Booker is perfect : he is going to do his job and not complain.

Smith to be useful would have to go back to the player he was in 2010, which was a 6'9 PF attacking the rim and swating shots on defense.

Saw this guy play at the RMR (way) back in the day. Devin Harris was playing for the Mavs and had a breakaway. Harris had a breakaway and soared up for a tomahawk dunk which was stone-cold rejected by Smith (just months out of high school). He sent Harris sprawling over the endline, no foul. Best physical play I've ever seen live and in-person, that close up.

Wasted talent.

Ehh, he was very good in Atlanta. He was just put in a terrible situation in Detroit for his skills. Now, it's also his fault for not realizing his weaknesses, but he was always put in a bad position playing alongside Drummond/Monroe.

If we were in dire need of a PF, I would be pro-Smith.
The stench 4 of our dreams

(Intentional typo ^)

So who are Rockets going to cut to make room for Smith?
Could be someone Jazz might be interested in?

And he's always been a ****ing cancer and headcase too. So much so that the Pistons would rather just jettison his bull **** and eat the money than ever deal with him again.

Yeah, it should have been easy to just adopt a 3-big rotation of Smith/Drummond/Monroe, but it seems like Monroe and Smith both have too big of egos to accept a bench role without becoming extremely moody.

That rotation undoubtedly exacerbated Smith's ****tiness, however, it merely exacerbates qualities everyone in the league and that follows the league has long known about Smith, and he also put himself in that situation to begin with.

Still makes me mad he went to Houston though. Houston is extremely analytically driven in the fact that they don't allow their players to take bad shots. If they can work their analytical magic on Smith, he could become a monster again.
