Should Mitt release his tax returns?

Don't validate Stonehenge. A total of something like $13 & change goes to China for iPad production. The rest goes to US engineers, logistics, transportation, & distribution, Germany, asian allies, and the rest of the world. The San Fransisco Fed put out a paper a couple years back on it and another group of economists did as well.

And then that $13 comes back to America as the current account balances, as it must.
You only seem to care about the dollar amount. That is your problem. Nobody cares how much money the richest company in the history of the world profits.

They hire thousands of people to manufacture the iPad in China. If those people were hire4d in, say, Detroit instead, it would mean Apple makes a little less profit but thousands of currently unemployed people would have a decent job. If the money balances out in the end anyway, might as well put people to work.

I would like to see you prove this, and by this I do not mean naming a reference, but by quoting evidence and explaining what you mean, because it sounds to me like BS. Are you saying that a country does not accumulate cash reserves or debt over time?

So, you are acknowledging that the tax cuts created no response?

The GOP pretty much acknowledged as much prior to the last fiscal cliff shenanigans. They wanted to get rid of the $114bln "expense" but couldn't do it politically, of course. There was very little benefit from it compared to costs.

The republicans know putting people to work is much more effective. That's why they're blocking the infrastructure bill until after the elections. This all feeds into my opposite voting theory--want war spending increased, higher education funding decreased, & tax cuts for everyone? Vote democrat. Want a jobs bill, tax hikes on the rich (i.e. Mitt's simplification), and millitary spending frozen? Vote republican.

Basel Accords (sorry to use big boy words).

Also, I suspect that the $13 is rising year by year, assuming it is accurate. Is it $13 of pure profit? Multiply that by a few hundred million units per year, accumulated year over year indefinitely, and factor in thousands of other products besides , and it starts to adding up to real money pretty fast.
But it is just $13. You are such a disingenuous fellow.

China uses the money to purchase high-tech equipment like Boeing jet engines. This supports much higher paying jobs than your petty protectionist nonsense. You're arguing to take away some of the best manufacturing and engineering jobs in America and you don't even know it. Sad how willing you are to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Are you serious? And if it was made in Detroit, how much do you believe an iPad would cost? Just how much profit is "a little less profit"?

Yup, the labor cost in China is rising drastically. That's why they're purchasing more of our goods and many of these jobs are being "onshored". The kicker is we're still getting a lot of junk for free as they hold devaluing assets. Kicks *** eh?

And America wouldn't also use that money to purchase jet engines and other American goods?

Where is the quote? Where is the explanation? You are saying that your reference tells us that a country can not accumulate wealth by exporting goods? If not, what are you saying?

I know you are against this but franklin is trying to get you to go look at his reference and educate yourself. That can only make you a better debater on this subject.

Just a quick tangent: I find it horribly interesting that this thread has now turned into a discussion on the merits/side effects of creative destruction, or lack thereof, and whether a free market in terms of labor economics is "meritable".

It could cost the exact same amount as it does today. The markup on those is ridiculous. If Amazon can sell their Kindle Fire for $200 (And Google sells their Nexus 7 for the same price) and make a profit, I'm pretty sure Apple could make the iPad in the USA and still make a profit at the $400+ that they currently sell them for.

You can find brand new Chinese Android tablets for $100 and even $50 if you look around.

But isn't it the responsibility of the company to create the greatest profit for the benefit of the shareholders of the company?

Not to Northeast. it is the companys responsibility to do what is best for his view of the world regardless of how this impacts their business.

RE P422: No Stoked, you are BS ing too, or you don't know what you are talking about.
Let Franklin explain what he means, instead of hiding behind obfuscation and tricks.
