Should the Jazz renegotiate and extend Favors next year?

I really hope that's the case as well - great guy, great player. I do think, in some ways, it's going to be contingent on Favors extending his range and continued chemistry between him and Gobert. I've read enough nuggets now indicating that Lindsey and Snyder both have questions about offensive spacing that make me think this is very much a discussion that's being had.
this is bull. Spurs had Splitter and Duncan. Won a title. Yeah, they had Kawhi playing the 4 when needed but Duncan and Splitter lineup was very important to that team. And Favors shot better FG % from mid range than Duncan last year

I find what Stifle is saying to be possibly true. Quin's respect for the three is pretty obvious and we see that now here and in Atlanta. My hope is that Favors has quietly been working on this aspect of his game and shoots somewhere around 75-100 3's this year. I recall that game late last year where he shot the one corner three about ten seconds into the game off a set play and drilled it. His form was solid. And if he could take a limited amount this year and hit somewhere around 30%, I'd like that (I think Quin would too) as a foundation moving forward and would be really curious how good he could get with another year or two of practice.

There's no way to shoot threes with Gobert or Favors on the floor. What you and Stifle are saying makes perfect sense.

Definitely. Favors keeps improving and his jumper is getting better. He also JUST TURNED 24.

His loyalty should be rewarded as well. His scoring average has gone up each and every year and he can realistically be a 20-25 PPG 10 RPG guy who plays good defense and blocks shots while not getting in foul trouble. There aren't a lot of guys in the NBA who can do all of these things....

Keeping Gobert and Favors together should be one of the main focuses for this team moving forward. I believe they will be regarded as the best front court tandem in the NBA very, very soon. When they reach that point, this is going to be a very tough team to beat.

I wouldn't mind it... Re-structure the final year of his deal so he'd get 18-20M and then do the 7.5% raises for the next 3 years. That would keep him locked at ~20M per year until 2021(with salary cap at ~110M it will be a bargain of a contract yet again). I wonder if he'd be willing to do it.

This is exactly what the Jazz should do. Reward Favors with an upgrade to his current contract, while keeping the cap flexibility that they've had the last few seasons.

Well, that's true if Dante won't shoot and Burks isn't consistent. Guess it's easier to place the blame for the offensive struggles on one player. Personally, I think Favors has a good enough mid-range game (and improving) that you could keep him and Exum to maintain a top-3 defense while inserting someone like Hood into the starting lineup to give the team outside shooting.

I think Hood, Hayward and (eventually) Exum would give Utah enough 3PT shooting. We'll never be the GS Warriors, but Utah needs to establish their own style. Before GS won their title, no one thought an outside shooting team would win. It's clear Utah isn't going to bench Gobert and go small as their primary system, so build around the strengths Utah already has.

He also JUST TURNED 24.

So did Burks just a couple days ago.

It's amazing how young this team is, yet how good they already are.

This cake is going to be super tasty

24, 2nd leading scorer on the team and STILL improving. Plays defense. .56 true shooting percent. Those guys grow on trees. DL is shopping, the rumors have to be true.

Am I the only one to realize that Favors is on the cusp of being a legitimate 2nd option or even a 1B?

And to add to his sarcasm, So the Spurs couldn't shoot 3's with Duncan and Splitter on the floor and a very modest 3 point shooter in Kawhi playing the 4 at times? This is some bubblegum Bull Sh**

Pretty much my thought. If he's happy and wants to be here and the Jazz are happy with him, may as well put do what you can within the rules to extend that relationship. If something gets worked out, then awesome. If not, you've let the guy know you want him to stay. Either way, there's no harm in trying.

Favors is what makes this D work, not Gobert. Favors is what allows Gobert to be Gobert. Gobert allows the guards to be aggresive. But it all comes back to Favors and his quickness and ability to cut off passes and cutters while Gobert challenges the ball handler. Improving O game as well.

Favors is under rated, guy is a stud.

Whatever is causing it to work, it seems like a great core is in place and unless they get something amazing in return (Anthony Davis like) I will be very disappointed if they mess with it. I am not at all worried that they will, BTW.

One thing I love about Favors is his team orientation. He believes something special is happening here, and his words and actions are going a long way toward making that into a reality. Additionally (somewhat related), the way he dealt with his last contract is a mega-positive in my book. His attitude is worth a ton!

This. I honestly think we could offer him five years (can we extend five or just four?), 90M and he may take it.
