We did get him from T'Wolves for very little.. and you have to ask the question "Has he gotten a lot better since then?"

Which is why we might roll out the big lineup next year. KOC even hinted at that in his exit interview with Locke. In that scenario, we're effectively letting Al, Sap, and Harris drop off the books. We can resign any or none of them. But we'll have another year to evaluate the young guys and huge cap space.

Jefferson is essentially the same player as Kaman (more or less). Kaman is taller, can definitely score in the post (torched us several times this year). They even tried to unload Kaman this year for draft picks.

So why on earth would they not just re-sign him, instead of giving up a #14 pick for a 1 year rental of Big Al?

Kaman is a lot older and has several injury problems.

Would you rather have another year of this season (though improved because the young 4 should improve) and then be set up to get a star in 2013, or trade Al away for some mediocre players who are going to inhibit our ability to compete in FA?

I guess it would all depend on what is being offered for Big Al.
 
I would like Favors and Kanter to get a real opportunity to excel. Whatever that means.

I don't believe the big lineup is a viable way to accomplish this. I think it's a tool that could be useful, but the Jazz would have to use that as a primary lineup to get everyone minutes.

Which might happen. Considering their limited ability to sign anybody, it actually makes the most sense. Tell Sap he's a 3 now, let him work on that the whole summer, and then both Kanter and Burks get heavy rotation minutes. As long as Sap buys in, it's a good one year plan.

He isn't a 3 though. He needs to work on being a PF and be ready for his old role of 25 mpg.

He is a great starter, but he is an even better bench player.

I don't think he is, either. But that's the beauty of Favors. It's a little like Orlando. They can get away with playing Hedo, Reddick, and Richardson because those guys don't have to worry about getting beat into the paint. Well, within reason. Like I said, a one year plan in a year when we have to make the pieces we have work until 13.

The difference is those 3 players you named on Orlando are at their best on the perimeter, Millsap is not.

I know Millsap hit those 3 threes that one time, but he isn't a 3pt shooter.
 
I would trade him to Houston for Kevin Martin. The Jazz's main problem in the San Antonio series was our complete inability to hit outside jump shots. We rely WAY TOO MUCH on points in the paint. It really hurts us against San Antonio because they simply clogged the lane against the Jazz which totally took us out of our offense, which was based this year on getting offensive rebounds and points in the paint. Kevin Martin would solve a lot of our issues, as he is a high-scoring guard that is dynamite from the perimeter. This would allow us to start Favors at Center, Millsap at Power Forward, and Hayward at Small Forward. We then would hopefully get the Golden State pick, which would allow us to draft a young point guard prospect to eventually replace Harris (Kendall Marshall). Here is my Utah Jazz 2012-2013 Depth Chart:

PG: Devin Harris, Kendall Marshall, Jamaal Tinsley
SG: Kevin Martin, Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward
SF: Gordon Hayward, DeMarre Carroll, Jeremy Evans
PF: Paul Millsap, Jeremy Evans, Enes Kanter
C: Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, 2nd Round Draft Pick
 
Well, the trade works on Realgm.com and ESPN's NBA Trade Machine. Both Jefferson and Kevin Martin have expiring contracts and they are close enough money-wise that they could be traded for each other straight across without anybody else involved. I also want us to amnesty Raja Bell and not resign either Josh Howard or C.J. Miles (even though his outside shooting ability would have helped against the Spurs).

Castelton, I'd love that. Good trade idea. And then Marshall seasoning on the bench.. I just don't feel Harris is a good mentor. Jamaal Tinsleys alright, but I don't think he's mentor material either.
 
All I know is Favors deserves more minutes and Kanter needs more minutes. Therefore one of the team's current starter big men has to go no matter what. When it comes to that, Big Al is the obvious one to go with to trade. Isn't it that simple?
