Should this guy have been arrested?

Yes. They should throw the book at whatever charge they have. And when he's paroled if he has as much as a jaywalking ticket they should throw the book at him for a parole violation. Any sick **** who would do this will eventually be in the news for torturing people.

We should throw every hungry **** in jail. This is America, you don't get to be hungry.

Strangling can be a pretty humane way to die TBH. Much better than slitting the dog's throat, or whacking it over the head with a pair of pliers like a fish.

If you think it's so great, you should try it.

The 'family puppy' part is what got him caught, and probably the reason he deserved to be arrested. I'll go yes. If this were like an Iraq situation:

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2010/06/iraq-kbr-one-million-dogs-death

Amid its struggles with Sunni jihadists, Shiite radicals, and Kurdish separatists, the Iraqi government is training its sights on a new enemy: dogs. According to the UK's Daily Mail, Iraq is spending 35 million dinars—about $30,000—to send 20 shotgun-wielding squads out to hunt down the capital's strays. Their goal: Killing one million canines. So far, they've scratched 42,000, and they're averaging 2,400 a day. "We could consider this the biggest campaign of dog execution ever," Baghdad's chief veterinarian, Mohammed al-Hilly, told the newspaper.

And the dude snagged one off the street to eat or something, I would have less of a problem with it.

I'll reserve judgement for now. It sounds horrendous but it doesn't say why he he did it.

That said, I think a felony charge for this is ridiculous. What he did was no different than what millions of hunters and meat processing plants do everyday. Most cases of animal cruelty are a joke.

Okay P.E.T.A. ;)

Stories like this are prime example of why this nation is a joke. We can maim deer and track them for miles, but some hungry Haitian who lived on dog meat back in the homeland deserves a life in prison for quietly putting a dog down.

At best, this guy deserves a sentence for destruction of property, maximum for the emotional value of the pet. Err, I mean I bet this ******* was smoking tobacco when the cops showed up too. Throw him in a dungeon.

i did this to my family's pet cow a few weeks ago. he hit eighteen months so i killed it, quartered it, and even cooked some on the stove while storing the rest in the freezer for later.

Your comparing apple's and oranges. He wasn't caught poaching a deer he was eating a puppy. Throw the book at this sucker and put him under the jail.

My great love for dogs, puppies in particular, made me outraged at first.

But what right do I have to judge what other people eat? As long as it really was a "humane killing", and it was his dog, we should let him go.

I'm sorry, even as an avid dog lover, this is ********.

Yeah, it's pretty detestable by my standards, but if the guy wanted he could have dropped the dog off to be killed by the "humane society." So if he has them kill his dog he's a good guy but if he kills his dog he's a monster and should face significant prison time?

I was staying with my aunt, uncle and cousins when I was a kid. My uncle had cattle and was a Sheriff's deputy, lived close tot eh Utah/Arizona border. A real cowboy type.

Anyway. they had a few boxers and one was still pretty young. While I was staying there a neighbor came over and told my uncle that the dog had gotten into his chickens...again. Well, my uncle had warned the dog before... My uncle made things right with the neighbor and made absolutely sure it would never happen again.

People are buying the idea he killed the family pet (which is a puppy) for food? Wow, ok.

It's a shame we don't live in a country where you can get a ****ing burger for a dollar on nearly every street corner. If not for that people would have to resort to killing puppies for meat (because we all know they are a plentiful and great source of meat).

Anyone who has children and would kill their pet for any reason other than euthanasia (or unless we are living in apocalyptic times and food does become a valid excuse) is a piece of **** ****ing psychopath, and I hope Florida does the right thing and throws the book at this jagoff.

My friends dog tried to bite my girlfriend one time and I kicked it in the ribs. Didnt try to eat them though.

Do you think people can eat meat from other sources and not be considered psychopaths?

Every shelter I've been to at least makes an attempt to adopt the pet out, and then euthanizes them humanely.

The thing about shelters though is that if they had the resources they would all be a no kill shelter (and since the 70s there has been a substantial decline in the number of pets killed at shelters). They aren't psychopaths who kill puppies to eat them.
