Singer Amy Winehouse found dead

I think we need to all be aware of Karma and not wish ill fortune upon anyone.

However, having said that, seriously, when is Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton going to be found in the same situation? More Lohan, it seems like even when she's in rehab or probation she finds a way to get herself into trouble.

Charlie Sheen as well.

Maybe he really does have Tiger's Blood...

Addiction is not a disease. Just because it's hard to kick doesn't mean a person gets to call it a disease. At the end of the day, you choose whether you're going to beat something or not, and she didn't. Another dead famous person, I'm so sad about it.

Drug addiction is a chronic, often relapsing brain disease that causes compulsive drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences to the individual that is addicted and to those around them. Drug addiction is a brain disease because the abuse of drugs leads to changes in the structure and function of the brain. - WEBMD

As for this drug addicted tool, I say good riddance. Her music sucked, her attitude sucked, her face sucked. She was in a position of fame, had many fans that were young and impressionable, and this is what she was all about. Congrats, you stupid ugly bitch.

Couldn't agree more. She was the most overrated female singer ever.

It's difficult to feel sorry for millionaires who fail to find other things to do (the rest of us are trying to just make a living not waste tons of money on quick highs), find help (when they have millions more than the rest of us do), or find the discipline necessary to kick these things.

Wrong

Reading a report somewhere.....it said millions of fans we're weeping.

Millions? really? She had what, one or two hits, and millions of fans?

Did the "disease" cause them to get to that point? Whichever point that is? And at this point, all users are informed of the risks.

Amy Winehouse > 92 civilians in the Norway, mostly children and gunned down

Let's have some ****ing perspective, everyone. **** happens everywhere every day, and at the end of the day, the amount of sympathy I have for someone that led themselves down a ****ty path relative to everything else is pretty small. Especially if they have every resource in the world to help themselves. I'm pretty ****ing sick of it being implied I'm supposed to care about some famous person more than others, regardless of the circumstance.

Who said to have sympathy? Just don't be a complete moran and say addition's not a disease when it is.

"disease"? are you saying the doctors are wrong?

Why Do Some People Become Addicted While Others Do Not?

No single factor can predict whether or not a person will become addicted to drugs. Risk for addiction is influenced by a person's biology, social environment, and age or stage of development. The more risk factors an individual has, the greater the chance that taking drugs can lead to addiction. For example:

Biology. The genes that people are born with -- in combination with environmental influences -- account for about half of their addiction vulnerability. Additionally, gender, ethnicity, and the presence of other mental disorders may influence risk for drug abuse and addiction.
Environment. A person's environment includes many different influences -- from family and friends to socioeconomic status and quality of life in general. Factors such as peer pressure, physical and sexual abuse, stress, and parental involvement can greatly influence the course of drug abuse and addiction in a person's life.
Development. Genetic and environmental factors interact with critical developmental stages in a person's life to affect addiction vulnerability, and adolescents experience a double challenge. Although taking drugs at any age can lead to addiction, the earlier that drug use begins, the more likely it is to progress to more serious abuse. And because adolescents' brains are still developing in the areas that govern decision making, judgment, and self-control, they are especially prone to risk-taking behaviors, including trying drugs of abuse.

I didn't comment on Norway. Just your addiction isn't a disease comment.

Society has always seemed to care more about celebrities than common people why are you surprised?

She is a singer who has a heavy Jazz/Old School influence. She was pretty talented, wrote all her own songs and stuff. She became a heavy drug/alcohol addict and got super skinny/ugly.

Thanks CT. This is pretty sad.

I'm saying doing something or not still comes down to a choice. Whether factors are identical for everyone is kind of moot to me. The crux of the 12-step program is that you are powerless over your addiction, yet you can conquer what you are powerless over by INVENTING a deity to submit to if need be.

It seems to me that accountability is becoming increasingly rare in our world.

Labeling doctors' very vast and unspecific prognosis as this or that isn't my point. My point is people have a heyday rationalizing behavior with vast, unspecific prognoses.
