Slam Mag: Deron Williams - 8th Best Player in the NBA

Respect comes hard..........

for those that play for the Jazz. I don't think anyone thought John was number 1 until he retired. John was always behind Payton, Isiah or someone else. Hell, it's still hard to get some to acknowledge his greatness when Magic is brought up.

I for one think that Deron is the best point in the game, right now!! Chris' career has yet to show the world that he remotely deserves to be number 1.

I think that once Deron makes Al an all-star and the Jazz win a championship, he will be number one. (And that may be, just because he plays for the Jazz!) Even in the Jazz' system, if you were to plug Chris, he wouldn't be as good as Deron. And we're talking about a system that makes point guards, point guards.

I'm pretty sure that conversation would escalate into extreme rudeness very quickly. Probably over an argument about someone like David West.
Plus, I haven't watched much ball the last two seasons.

David West in the top 50?

There is something to be said about durability. What good is greatness if you aren't on the court to be great when it counts (the playoffs and getting your team to a decent seed)? How many other "greats" have been held back by injuries, and left out of conversations about the all-time greats. Chris Paul is obviously a great talent, but his last season might cause someone to think twice. There is still more to be written after all is said and done. So far DWill has shown the durability that he was (at least partially) drafted for, and the ability to play through minor injury (he even staged a comeback too early from his pre-season ankle last year). At the end of their careers, if Paul has several other seasons where he only plays in 40-50 games, we can certainly look back and be glad the Jazz drafted Deron.

Do you think that might have something to do with Boozer getting the ball fed to him on every scoring possession, with 4 other scoring threats on the floor every game over the past 5 years, while Al was putting up the same/better numbers against double and triple teams with no point guard?

yes.
