ESPN reported Monday night that Jerry Sloan is one of three finalists for the Charlotte Bobcats' head coaching job.

Citing league sources, ESPN said Indiana assistant Brian Shaw and Los Angeles Lakers assistant Quin Snyder are also being considered as replacements for Paul Silas, who was fired after a 7-59 season.

Sloan, Snyder and Shaw will meet with Charlotte owner Michael Jordan "in the next week or so," according to the ESPN report. Bobcat executives Rod Higgins and Rich Cho are also involved in the decision-making process.

Sloan, 70, resigned midway through the 2010-11 season after 23 years as head coach of the Utah Jazz. Inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009, Sloan is the only one of the Bobcat finalists with head coaching experience.

Sloan, Shaw and Snyder were chosen from a field of interviewees that included Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing, former Portland coach Nate McMillan, Golden State assistant Michael Malone, Cleveland assistant Nate Tibbetts, Charlotte assistant Stephen Silas, Memphis assistant Dave Joerger and St. John's University assistant Mike Dunlap.

Personally I think Sloan for a few years is exactly what Charlotte needs.

I personally think Sloan might find it a tough road to hoe in the "real NBA". By that I mean there are very few organizations like the Utah Jazz in how Sloan was treated, and with the backing he got from ownership on down. Jerry could have done almost anything he wanted in Utah and the Millers would have trusted him. I also think he and KOC understood each other and that came from years together, and again, the continuity in ownership on down.

Jordan is no Larry Miller and I doubt Sloan know Rich Cho from Adam, so I don't think he will even get a fraction of the support/backing/understanding he got with the Jazz. And, IMO, for Sloan's style to work in the modern NBA having those isn't just a luxury its a necessity.........................................IMO.

Brian shaw interests me the most. Spent a lot of time with Phil Jackson. IMHO he is probably the best coach prospect out there but I wouldnt want the Charlotte job. Sloan is not a good fit. To old for a rebuilding gig. He needs a more established team.

Brian Shaw is high on a lot of lists - He'll get a job soon. Corbin was interviewed by several teams before he became our coach, and Shaw will go through a similar process and get hired sooner than later. The same thing could be said about the Warriors assistant Malone.

It'll be fun to watch him try though.

Sloan being hired would pretty much guarantee Robinson being picked at #3. Id love to see what he could do with TRob and Kemba or Augustin, with Hendo (a very Jazz-esque player) running cuts all around the place.

Plus, if Sloan can get this team to .500 ( very, very tall order) I think it would definitely cement him as a top 3 all-time coach. I don't think any other coach in the modern era has gone to one of the worst teams in the NBA, and performed a turnaround as profound as getting >30 more wins by the next season. Especially at his age.

I personally want Sloan to be hired, just to see what he could do with Charlotte. Reminds me of the 2004 Jazz squad.

I think Sloan is the right kind of guy to bring in to that situation. Expectations can't be that high for a few years, and he'll preach defense and effort at least, which that team sorely needs.

BTW, I'd be surprised if Robinson doesn't go #2. He's going to be a solid player.

Maybe we could now trade them Jefferson. Give them Jefferson and Sloan and they make the playoffs.

I know that's half hearted. But it could happen.

Sloan likes reliable vet (albeit flawed: see Boozer) to build his team around. It's definitely not outside the realm of possibility for him to demand more experienced players to get the Cats off the bottom of the NBA ladder.

I hope they trade back for #2 pick and use one of those picks (say Portland's #6) on Millsap/Jefferson.

I don't like the thought of Sloan working for Jordan, makes me feel icky all over. I hate irony.

The guy I've idolized working for the guy I've despised since his playing days! Figures.........

He did walk out on us. It was DWill's fault, but it was his choice to walk out on us. In the middle of the season no less.

MJ will probably ask Sloan to incorporate the "push-off" play. "Remember coach, how I killed y'all with that? Remember to teach these kids that"

While Phil Jackson is a better HC than Sloan, it's hard not to respect Sloan 10x more. The very fact that he's even considering the Bobcat job shows just how much Sloan loves basketball, and how he could give a **** about putting his "legacy" on the line. Jackson would NEVER do anything like that.
