What's new

Sloan hasn't ruled out returning to the bench...

Sloan would be a great assistant coach to bring in just for him to put his offensive schemes in. Defensively he is terrible at coaching how to properly defend how teams play nowadays.

Yes, but my memory was not that good. They were top-ten in the season ending 2001 and 2008, so not several, just two. Every year between 2007 and 2010 was 16th or better. So until this year, they were average of better in 3pt %.

So, were they just lucky for four seasons?

Where do you get those?

Dont worry about zman too much. He is just a Sloan hating idiot. According to his astounding logic, suddenly one fine year after playing under Sloan for 6 years all the players sat together and decided to "lose respect" for Sloan because he has been running the same system which have made the Jazz successful all the previous years. The same "predictable" system that helped them reach 2006-2007 WCF with a flawed team or even reach the finals a decade earlier.
Never mind that this team this year had lost both Boozer and Okur just like that and replaced both of them with just one big player, Big Al, who was struggling earlier to adjust. Never mind that they lost Korver and Wes. Never mind that Fragilenko was still on this team.Never mind that Deron himself had hurt his wrist yet again and was having terrible shooting nights. Never mind that Miles was his usual chucker self and Bell looked over the hill. Never mind that they didnt have any perimeter shooter worth a darn. Nope. It was all because of Sloan's predictable system that we lost games. How revealing? And if there were some other coach in place of Sloan this season, I mean any other coach would have led this great team to a title.

(PS: I fully expect zman to come back with his lame "no rings" argument. That is the only thing that is really "predictable" in all this, funnily enough)

On the ESPN ticker last night the SL tribune reported that Sloan was not interested in persuing a NBA coaching job.

This thread was about the players losing respect for Sloan and I speculated on what could have made that happen. They may have had their reasons, despite what vj = "Sloan-is-God" thinks. The funny thing is your knee-jerk, angry instant defense of Ole Jer, as well as the lack of anyone else here considering that maybe the players had significant reasons for losing their respect.

It is quite true what Devin Harris said, and he said it a tone like "Of course I know all the plays. Everyone knows all your plays."

Sloan is pretty much saying the same thing to anyone who asks, but each newspaper tries to put a different spin on it. Basically it sounds like Sloan is undecided where he'll be 2 years from now, but he won't rule out returning, nor will he state that he will stay retired forever.

So, did the Jazz have a slightly above average 3 pt defense in the seasons ending 2007-2010, or did they just get lucky for four years?

How's it working this year? This is the year the players supposedly lost respect for Sloan. Why did they lose respect (if they in fact did)? Did they all just turn into wankers this year? Zat how it happened?

Yes, in a year where the turnover was huge and the talent level decreased, players weren't able to execute the defensive system properly, and it broke down. How is this different from what other coaches experience? I think there is no difference there. Did the system go out of date within a single year? Is that what you're claiming? That seems ludicrous.

Do you think if you attack with questions, and just ignore the ones posed to you, no one will notice?

Im still in shock. I could have sworn that 99% of this board hated Sloan. Now that he is gone, it seems people realise he was actually a good coach. Not perfect, obviously, but he put everything into it.

I honestly don't know why Jerry would want to coach any more. He has his money, he has his tractors, he doesn't need the crap that comes along with coaching.
