What's new

So glad we don’t have to deal with this anymore ……

I'm still very high on both teams for this upcoming year. I think the cavs will be a top 3 seed in the east and the wolves will a top 4 seed in the west.
I'm sure the Cavs will do fine in the regular season.

Their biggest strength last season was consistently mopping up sub .500 teams. It was rare for them to drop a game against a bad team. But, and I pointed this out before the playoffs started, they had a horrible record against teams above .500:

30-5 against sub .500 teams, 21-26 against teams at or above .500. The Jazz had more wins against teams at or above .500!

That was a giant red flag for me, and man did it ever come true in the playoffs when, even with HCA, they got blasted by the Knicks with an injured Randle.

The only shot the Cavs have at getting a return even approaching legit would be to play the Nets and Knicks off of each other.
They would get good offers if they put him out there now, but doubt they have the stones for that. I mean if Miami gave up on Dame and sent Herro, Jacquez, Jokic, 2-3 firsts (if they can get OKC to amend pick protections) that wouldn't be the end of the world. If they wait until he has a year left then it will get really difficult.

They aren't going to get a rotation rookie, three picks, two swaps, and another freaking all star? Freaking bad economy. . .

And a top notch 6h man

I know almost nobody will agree with me, but I lowkey believe the Cavs made an even worse trade than the Wolves did.
This is a pretty wild statement that is getting a ton of likes. Minnesota couldn’t get 25% of what they traded for Gobert back for him.

That was shared like it was reporting lol it was purely his often wrong opinion

I'm pretty sure everybody is thinking the same thing, I don't think anyone around the league is expecting him to stay in Cleveland.

Trading for John Collins and re-signing Clarkson doesn’t exactly scream tank to me.
Correct me if i'm wrong but with the new CBA all teams have to spend up to the minimum amount right?

We could just be doing that, and the fact that we have Collins a few more years after next means we could still go for it in 2024/2025.

I still think we have too many youngins learning the ropes this next season to be doing real damage.

It will be watching Keyonte, Hendricks and Sensabaugh try and fail this year but we'll be average and peter out at the end of the season IMO.

Nor did they give up an all star who probably should have been all-NBA. . .
I think when evaluating the return you have to look at what he and Walker were when they got traded… not necessarily what they turned out to be. Both guys would get multiple firsts if they were traded right now… that was not the case last summer.

But imagine if Lauri has his glow up
In Cleveland… I think that team might be better than what Cleveland currently has… and all that draft capital… yikes.

I give a lot of credit of Lauri's glow up to Hardy and increased opportunity, but I think some major step up would have happened regardless.

Cleveland fumbled. It was hard to see in live action but became abundantly clear after replay.

A lot of it depends on Mobley. His second year he didn't show the development needed on offense. I think Don and Ant are similar offensive engines right now. If Ant takes a step and Rudy hangs on to his prime I think they have an easier route to potential contention. Minny's wings are solid... would also be nice if they hit a homerun on a KAT trade. I think Cleveland is boxed in a bit... if Don committed they could crush it in a Garland deal but kinda have to stick with the small backcourt cuz if Don bails then Garland is beyond critical.

Both teams pushed in at weird times with weird moves... glad we benefitted.

Minny contending? For what?

I've been thinking this for a while now.
Some rebuilds have to happen but ours was self inflicted. I would argue that when you trade two all-stars who were still in their prime that long rebuilds make little sense. There were lots of options last year that would have kept us very competitive and we chose a different route. The goal is not to acquire assets and be excited for draft night and the trade deadline, the goal is to win games. IMO it is go time. I would like to see us make the playoffs this year.

I think the current goal is to just acquire assets tbh. I don't think winning is a huge priority yet. If it was/is, we would see a larger urgency to get a PG.

Ant is very good... so if he pops just a bit more they could be a conference finals team... if you can get to the conference finals then you are a sprained ankle away from a potential title. McDaniels is also quite good and improving. If they got something for KAT and Rudy didn't fall off a cliff they are in pretty good shape in the immediate term.
