What's new

So Harden,Eric Gordon, and CJ McCollum withdraw from Team USA

I'm just going to cheer for Donovan and our other guys participating and not worry about injuries. You can't completely prevent injuries no matter what you do. We just gotta hope for the best tbh.
Sure. But Gobert and Ingles should be on load management/minutes restriction even if they didn’t play in this thing.

Mitchell is going to have to carry a huge burden this year if only because he’s the only serious player with young, good, non-giant legs on the team. I could see Royce playing a surprisingly big role for the team this year for that reason as well. Conley/Gobert/Ingles/Bogdanovic should be moth-balled whenever feasible. The Jazz should really just try to destroy teams whenever possible if only for that reason.

One thing to keep in mind is Donovan only averaged 33 mpg last year and the year before. Even with the lack of offensive depth those years, injuries to PGs, being the only one with legitimate #1 option talent, Quin was good about not packhorsing him. Otherwise, I would suspect we'll see some load management as well for our big four/five (if counting Ingles). That said, Donovan isn't going to have as much burden this year due to the weapons the team now possesses.

Yeah I’m not as cool with Conley playing in it. I don’t want to see him do it. His age, injury history. I’m happy to see Donovan do it but would much rather Conley just sit this one out.
Agreed. I can see where it will be beneficial for DM to play. He has something to gain.
Ingles, Conley, and gobert I don't think really have much to gain and would rather they didn't play but whatever

I agree with both sides of this argument, but if he wants to do it I'm ok with Donovan playing as long as he doesn't get too many minutes. At his age it shouldn't hurt him.

If Donovan has a chance to represent the USA and the Utah Jazz while doing that, he needs to do it. His profile just keeps expanding and expanding. I support him in whatever he wants to do at this point. It's great for his brand and our brand.

I agree with this. Something that Team USA has been pimping is that players tend to have career years after playing in the FIBA/Olympics. It'd be good for Donovan as well to pick the brains of other players. But, in the end, it's simply what he chooses to do.

Agreed I support him doing it 100%. At this point Donovan will be one of the headlining names on the team which is going to be great for raising his profile, and also probably selling shoes if he has a good turn out with the team. I wish Joe wouldn’t play, and I wish Conley would turn down the offer. Rudy I’m not too worried about and think it’s good for him as well. But Conley and Joe,I wish they’d just sit it out. If Conley accepts and plays its cool, and so long as everyone stays healthy who cares.

I really wanted the brain he was picking to be Dame, he’s the only one I’m pretty upset withdrew. I would have loved Donovan to be around Dame for a while.

At the start of this thread I didn't want DM to play, but I have changed my mind. At this point he would be one of the faces of the team for marketing purposes, and he should have a larger role. Also, playing for the team now makes it more likely he is included on the Olympic roster.

As for Conley, I actually don't mind the idea of him and Mitchell getting some game reps together. Hopefully Conley doesn't play to many minutes, but this is probably the only chance he will ever have to represent his country and is likely to be the greatest honor he gets his entire career (having never made All star or All NBA teams). Reminds me of this story about how important the Olympics were for Michael Redd. https://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/20/sports/olympics/20araton.html
