After tonight's results, the Warriors are at least guaranteed a coin flip for the 8th slot vs. winner of Toronto/NJ.

Maybe the Warriors will beat New Orleans and guarantee the spot.

Does anybody know when the actual lottery is?

Another thing you have to keep in mind is that the Warriors could actually end up winning another game and tying the Pistons for the 8th seed(of course if Detroit loses its final game). Then obviously they would have a coin toss for the 8th and 9th position while splitting the lotto balls up for that 8th position between the Warriors and Pistons. Which of course would hurt the Warriors chances a little bit more at jumping into that top 3. So I guess I hope the Warriors win against NO and then win the coin toss against the Pistons. That would be ideal. Anyway, we'll see what happens.

And the good news is we should have something to do in the time between 4/26 and 5/30 because the Jazz should be in the playoffs.

Waiting for the lottery is very painful when you follow an actual lottery team.

When is the coin toss to determine the lottery positions

I assumed it would be the day after the regular season ends (this Friday), but I was talking with my brother today and he reminded me that it usually takes place at the Board of Governors meeting...which already happened in April.

I still assume they will break the ties this Friday, but it may not be so simple. I think they do it with the owners there in person as a control. That way nobody can accuse the league of tampering with the coin flip.

If we assume that Cleveland and Sacramento don`t win their last two games and that GS loses out the season, GS have a 50% chance of ending 7th or 8th from the bottom after the coin toss. If they finish 7th, there is about a 29% chance that a team with a higher pick sends the GS-pick to 8th. Adjusting for their own chances to win the lottery, they should have something between 37-38% chance of keeping their pick if they lose their last two games, which obvisouly means that we at the moment have over a 60% chance of getting it.
