Something specific to watch for with Kanter

I thought Kanter was the most encouraging player for the Jazz last night. I was worried he was going to be a bust, but it was clear that he can rebound and hustle, you never have too much of that. Maybe on another court on another day the refs will let the Jazz players get a few calls, and then they might not look so terrible.

Once they get some chemistry going they will be better. I saw several misreads and guys just not playing off each other last night. For example. A play where Hayward drove to the hoop and when the defense collapsed on him he put the ball right in Big Als gut and Big Al was not ready and it resulted in a turnover. That would have been +2 if not for a simple miscue between the players. Hopefully those will start to die down.

I did enjoy watching McRoberts try to take on Kaner. Kaner didn't back down and McRoberts looked like an idiot after Kaner blocked his shot.

To me he needs to just shake off the jitters, and not be afraid of the big boys under the basket. That first possession where he faked out Gasol under the rim, if he had just gone up strong and dunked that bitch he would have drawn a foul too. As soon as he does this (it took Hayward about half the season last year) then it looks to me he will have a real shot to grow as a player into something potentially dominant.

IS he capable of dunking that bitch in traffic though?

Damnit, site keeps eating my post when I hit reply. Try this one more time.

I haven't seen it. I've seen him make some truly awesome dunks when just goofing around (he can get up), but anytime I've seen him in a game, he looks like he has an 8" vertical. No explanation.

As much as his athletic ability, size, and motor have been hyped I sure as **** hope so.

If not, wow what a waste of size.

Kanter's play was just fine for a rookie (who has had limited playing time in the last 2 years). The guy beat D. Nowitzki's scoring record against the best of his peers; his offensive game will be just fine when he gets some confidence and experience. His defense against Gasol was fine. It wasn't spectacular, but it was fine. Blocks can be an indication of good d but don't guarantee it. Gasol schooled him a few times, true, but he held his ground most of the time. The jazz lost mainly because of their atrocious shooting. They missed wide-open shot after shot. As Locke points out they were 17/36 at the rim last night (1 foot away)!
