What's new

Sounds Like the Blake Ahearn Experiment is Over

Even though they are called 10-day contracts I believe the players are still paid per game. Minimum salary if this were a full season is $473,604, so divide that by 82 games = $5,776 per game.

5 games on his first 10-day contract = $28,878.
3 games left this season = $17,327 to keep him the rest of the way.
Not a bad way to make $46K in 3 weeks.

Players aren't normally paid extra salary for the playoffs, but I wonder if that's different for a guy like Ahearn who just barely signed. Not sure.

EDIT: Scratch those numbers, he's not a rookie. Shows how much attention I've paid, right?

There are team bonuses for making the playoffs and advancing, but it is a small amount. I think the players split $150-200k for making the playoffs, plus additional bonuses for advancing, etc.

For most players it is not much money, but for Ahern, that is an extra 10-15k.

I don't know that there is a rule for players signed this close to the end of the season. He may continue to get paid at least what he's making on the 10=day contracts. ****, I could do what he's going to do if we make the playoffs. (sit on the bench and cheer). And I'd do that for free ( Haha, I'd even pay to have a front row seat for the first round including airfare, hotel, meals etc.).

teams vote on how to distribute the bonus funds and usually just vote to split it evenly, without regard to how long guys have been with the team. also, in the jazz's case they typically vote to create a share for the ball boys, etc., as a show of appreciate for their help over the course of the year.
