Southwestern Utah questions

I'm going to be driving east from Panaca, NV into southwestern Utah in a couple days. I have some questions for those of you familiar with the area:

1. Is there anything particularly beautiful/empty/desolate about taking a side trip north, off the 56, through Beryl, around through Lund, and then back toward Enoch? Or would it be better to stay on the 56?

2. Anybody have a sense for the road conditions after this latest bout of weather?

Gracias

I used to go rock climbing at some place way out there. Otherwise I just remember it being pretty desolate.

Aplenty of ways to get up to your axles in mud along 56.

Wrong time of the year. Not enough daylight for the long road.

About 4 storms recently, several inches of snow turned to puddles. . . .but by all means do the long route, then tell me all about it. I've never been there. . . .

damn the winter. I still refuse the 15, though. UDOT makes sure the 6 is always passable, right?

Three Peaks is just north of 56 but nothing especially worthy. I say stay on 56.

If you come up 56 you are going to be within 2 minutes of my house.

Bad storm yesterday but 56 should be clear. Cedar City (Enoch) and Beryl are supposed to be partly sunny thru Friday.

What brings you to my hometown?

about a year ago I determined to drive nearly every damn road in the Basin and Range. I haven't been on that stretch yet. I'm on my way to visit family in SLC (from Los Angeles). I have no idea when (or even what day) I'll be there, otherwise I'd ask about meeting up. You gonna be around?

when and where is this happening? My schedule for when I'm in SLC is pretty tight, unfortunately. I have to get in and out of there before the Xmas insanity gets in full swing.

The 6 in western Utah is my road. It doesn't get top billing on snow removal, and wind can sometimes drift it pretty bad. I can't speak much on the Bishop=Ely section, but I imagine it's pretty much high elevation and gets snow and takes a day to melt off or get plowed. The 56 summit east of Panaca/Pioche would be questionable in my mind if there is any storm going on. That's why I prefer the I-15. Even with Beaver and the 6600 foot summits there in stormy weather.

So far nothing is planned. I saying for you to contact GF and let him know when you are in town so we can get the ball rolling

I have no plans to leave town till after New Years.

Well the 130 from Cedar to Minersville, then the 21 from Minersville to Milford is always decent if it is not actively snowing (NOAA says it wont be thru the weekend). Those roads are open year round. (Cedar to Milford is roughly 40 minutes)

Then you can take the 257 from Milford to Delta where you can get on the 6.

I have not traveled that route north of Milford in several years though.

The Cedar to Delta drive is about 2 hours. Delta is almost as far north as Nephi on the I15

We know how that's gone before.

you're sad. We can do this as many times as you'd like:

Okay.

Here is what really, really happened.

Trout and NAOS were to meet to fight it out (I guess).
Trout and I were at Ancestor Square and Trout was saying he really needed to get back to SLC but he wasn't about to leave and not show up.

I explained that he would really be an idiot if he hung around, missed his meeting in SLC and NAOS didn't show.

I advised that he leave because the meeting up north was more important than this dumb rendezvous even if it were to happen.
He agreed and headed out.

I was at the square when I got a text from Trout explaining that apparently NAOS had in fact showed up and asked me to go over to George's and try to confirm.
I headed over walked around and thought I had maybe spotted who NAOS might have been. Sitting in the lowest level by the pool table.

To the best of my recollection I turned so the dude could see my Kentucky pullover and just said, "sup." Because the dude didn't engage me I figured it probably wasn't him but it turned out it was.

That's about it.
