Spence Checketts gone

People act like DUIs are not punished severely.

All DUIs go to jail.

All DUIs lose their driving privileges for, I believe, 6 months for a first offense. Longer for a second and I'm not sure when an ignition device is required that you have to breath into to unlock.

The fines are over $1000 for a first offense.

You will pay more than $10,000 in additional insurance costs.

You must attend a thing where someone who had a relative killed by a DUI driver tells you their story.

You must go to counseling to determine if you have a substance abuse problem.

You will most likely be sentenced to community service (picking up trash on the side of the road or something like that) and a work-release jail sentence (where you check-in at the jail but don't actually have to stay there).

There are many jobs you will no longer qualify for.

DUIs are punished. Which is great! Call a ****ing UBER if you want to go out and drink.

I'm really lucky in that my wife is always willing to pick me up if she can if I got to a party or out to drink. If she can't do it, I take an UBER.
Yeah, according to this site https://dui.drivinglaws.org/utah.php, minimum jail time for 3rd offense is 1500 hours (2 months). Presumably 4th offense is even more.

Hope Spence gets the help he apparently needs. I listen to him and Gordon nearly every day on my commute home.

I knew the dude was a dumpster fire by his awful takes. Hope he gets help and then stays far the hell away from further commentary on Utah sports.
Dude was about as real as you could get. Loved his takes. Can't imagine going through brain cancer.

I often go to the bar on Fridays after school with a few coworkers. After a few hours of drinking, I switch to coffee for an hour and a half.

Figure something ****ing out. And the 120mph thing seals my thinking here. The guy is a major douche and deserves a huge punishment here.

Sounds miserable. I just use a taxi service.

Thing is with Spence, he would always have strong and opinionated takes, especially when it came to human morality. Like I've said, he was my favorite radio guy in Utah, but I always knew he's 1) battled demons and 2) was still battling them.

He grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth, and his dad helped him with everything in life. Even after all of his screw ups, he still got a public sports job and actually excelled imo. I think his divorce, religion, being the rich guy's kid and cancer were his biggest demons. I hope he gets helps. I could totally see this dude committing suicide.

Im more stone cold sober than BYU, but I am far too familiar with alcoholism .

I cant help but think there can be better ways to help people for addictions and mental disorders than locking them up. Or by ignoring issues until a person does something worthy of being locked up.

I enjoy listening to Spence on the radio. I hope he has a support network to surround and help him. Hope he lets them.

He's clearly got a serious problem and hope he finds help. A fourth DUI while driving 120 mph is self-destructive behavior. I don't believe in punishment, really, and I don't believe in prison except for people who are a real risk to society. 4 DUIs and the reckless speed is a risk to society, and measures need to be taken so someone, including himself, does not get seriously hurt or killed. If they have already stripped him of his licence and he is continuing to drive, at some point jail time might be part of it at that point.

But as someone who has struggled with addiction I feel for anyone going through that. I hope he finds a path to a better life.

I think the caught rate is a lot closer to 1% than it is to 10%.

This.
I have been extremely lucky to never be caught. And I was extremely stupid to drive drunk so many times.
Haven’t done it years though at least. Having a child and Uber both made it something I will never do again and never need to do again.

I hear ya, I guess it just upsets me cause I worked forensics for 15 years and there was so many instances where bad things could've easily been avoided.

That’s some cool info that I didn’t know about you

An incredibly selfish and dangerous action. This loser needs at least 1 year in jail for his 4th offense. What's it going to take to get him off the road. A death?

I think a 4th offense should be even longer than a year.
