Donovan didn’t miss out on any rest. He didn’t play game 1, therefor he had rest there as well. He then had several days off before series 2 and it still got aggravated. If Donovan had his way he would have played several regular season games according to that ESPN article which would have been stupid as ****. And Mikes hamstring has been injured all year. It was coming regardless. Both injuries won’t be healing until the offseason and that was true against game 1 vs Memphis and now. The Jazz have literally played the least amount of playoff games of anyone, and Donovan and Rudy have played some of the least amount of minutes of any stars who have been ready to go. I don’t really want to hear that he didn’t get enough rest. The ankle just wasn’t ready for a playoff run. Period. If Mitchell had his say we would've swept Memphis and had plenty of rest before Round 2.
Oh and the game Conley got injured in never would have been played.
Mitchell had to play in Game 5 because we lost Game 1. That's sort of how the playoffs work, you see.Donovan didn’t miss out on any rest. He didn’t play game 1, therefor he had rest there as well.
I’m not mad at him for playing, I’m glad he gave it a go, but he’s not been open to letting the Jazz manage that injury properly and they don’t dare due to public backlash from him. What if the staff wanted him playing every other game? Less minutes? Etc. it’s fairly obvious he wasn’t real open to input because he wanted to give it a go as hard as possible and this is the result. It’s difficult but I’m sure the medical staff knew there was no way that ankle was holding up through a full playoff run. They were right, Don cannot move at this point. He took 19 shots last night, 14 of them were 3’s and he made 4 of them. In game 3 he didn’t look great either. It’s wearing out and with it, our playoff run is gone. Why are some mad at Donovan for being willing to play injured
Isn't that what a pro is supposed to do
They get paid millions to play
He didn’t, he literally would have played the same amount of games. If the argument between game 1 and 2 is that “what does a couple more days do?” Then don’t give me the argument that one more game he didn’t even play in round one is why he’s inured. He’s injured because that ankle was never going to sustain a playoff run unless heavily managed, which he wouldn’t allow. He has played 9 games in 22 days, with some minute restrictions in 3 of those games. THAT ANKLE WAS NEVER READY.Mitchell had to play in Game 5 because we lost Game 1. That's sort of how the playoffs work, you see.
He had less rest between rounds.
The Mike injury is just like Rubios a few years ago too. We kept expecting “next game, next game, next game” and he never returned.Honestly, this is a complete repeat of Deron Williams when we went to the WCF against the Spurs. He had one leg and tried with everything he could give but was a shell of himself.
That is currently Donovan Mitchell in a nutshell. We're the better team and injuries to key players are grinding our season to a halt.
oneye thinks that Mitchell having three extra days before playing his first playoff game after 6 weeks off is equivalent to having three extra days of rest between rounds. He didn’t, he literally would have played the same amount of games. That’s not what I said. I actually think he should have been resting every other game. I don’t even know that we know everything about the injury tbh. He should have let the staff who had taken care of him for 4 years continue taking care of him. The longer consistent rest is on an injury that needs time to heal matters most though for sure. I think it’s wild you somehow think what you’re referring to is what the issue was. The ankle was never ****ing ready.oneye thinks that Mitchell having three extra days before playing his first playoff game after 6 weeks off is equivalent to having three extra days of rest between rounds.
lol.
It sure was. That’s not what I said.
This isn’t a hike. This is an injury that takes a significant amount of inactivity and time to heal. And the part you want to ignore is Donovan and his wonderful staff wanted him cleared games before that. Yeah, I don’t trust his trainer, not him to judge an injury that is now obviously in a lot worse shape than it was 2 weeks ago. Which heals better? A scab you leave alone for 3 weeks or one you pick off and make bleed every other day? Picking at a scab leaves permanent scars. Re-aggravating an injury every other day vs letting it rest for as long as possible will also have potential for permanent problems. It sure was.
Who's going to be more fresh during the last half of an 8 hour hike? The person who rests an hour before the hike, or the person who rests an hour in the middle of the hike?
If Mitchell is reaggravating his injury in Game 2 of the 2nd round, then the reality is that he was never going to have enough time to heal before we needed him. This isn’t a hike. Mikes injury was also going to flare up regardless as well. Neither of their injuries were actually healed. I think if you wanted to stretch it you had to manage both of their injuries with extra days off and punting games during series. The staff knew the ankle wasn’t ready, it wasn’t, and unfortunately here we are. I simply hope he doesn’t hurt anything else in the meantime or make it worse. I wouldn’t even care if they sat him game 6(they won’t)it may be better if this series ends sooner rather than later for his health, regardless, this run is over and neither he or Mikes injury are going to be good enough to go the length of the playoffs and get us there. If Mitchell is reaggravating his injury in Game 2 of the 2nd round, then the reality is that he was never going to have enough time to heal before we needed him.
And that having been the case, sitting him Game 1 of the 1st round made no sense. The additional 3 days did nothing other than making the Jazz play an extra game that Conley got injured in.
Yup... he was very likely to tweak this no matter when we played him... unless we hoped to go through the first two rounds without him.If Mitchell is reaggravating his injury in Game 2 of the 2nd round, then the reality is that he was never going to have enough time to heal before we needed him.

Mike would have had 8 days of rest if we had swept Memphis.Mikes injury was also going to flare up regardless as well.
Well, oneye just hates everything Donovan Mitchell does so it's best to just ignore himWhy are some mad at Donovan for being willing to play injured
Isn't that what a pro is supposed to do

They should have just sat both guys and tanked the playoffs for a better draft pick.Mikes injury was also going to flare up regardless as well. Neither of their injuries were actually healed. He still had like 6 days, that's a good amount in the playoffs. I don't think an extra 2-3 days would have made much of a difference. Maybe if he doesn't tweak the ankle he is still 85-90%Mitchell had to play in Game 5 because we lost Game 1. That's sort of how the playoffs work, you see.
He had less rest between rounds.
