SportingNews: Jazz veterans already frustrated with new coach Corbin

For the Jazz, what has already been the most tumultuous season in more than two decades doesn’t seem to want to end smoothly. Utah has lost six straight to push new coach Tyrone Corbin’s record to 5-16 since taking over for Jerry Sloan in February, and players have already expressed frustration with Corbin.

Now, Corbin is wrestling with the notion of giving more playing time to Utah’s young players, which will mean scaling back the minutes of veterans like Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap. On Monday before the Jazz played the Wizards in Utah, Corbin expressed his desire to avoid playing three rookies—Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward and Jeremy Evans—at the same time.

But in the fourth quarter, with the Jazz trailing by 10, Corbin went with a lineup of the three rookies plus point guard Ronnie Price and swing man C.J. Miles. That lineup whittled the lead down and got the Jazz into overtime, when Corbin took the unusual step of starting the extra period with all three rookies.

Millsap and starting point guard Earl Watson returned in overtime, but Jefferson—who was removed with 54 seconds to go in the third quarter—did not return to the game. The Jazz lost, 100-95, giving the Wizards just their second road win of the season.

“We’ll see where we are,” Corbin said in his postgame press conference. “The young guys, I like their energy. If they’re gonna go and play hard, I think they’ll push everybody else to come along, if that’s what the case is.”

But Jefferson, for one, was not happy about remaining on the bench for the game’s final 17 minutes. According to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune, Jefferson at one point sat three seats from his nearest teammate, and exited the arena without talking to reporters.

Jefferson is not somebody you want to make unhappy considering he's the best player on the team. What the hell are you doing, Corbin?

What are the Jazz playing for right now? Is Jefferson the guy that helps you WIN the most, anyway? His pedigree doesn't say no, but hell no.

I don't know what Ty is going for, and I'm not sure he knows either. I do know that Harris and Jefferson are a huge waste of salary and time, though.

This article is horse ****.

I mean it may or may not be true - it's just worthless space filler with zero insight.

And it is the same story the SLTrib is reporting

And those vetrans have a right to be upset with Ty. I mean they were reallying doing well until he benched Rodger Bell last week. And the Jazz were right in the game with the Wizards when Al left the game......what a bunch of babies !!!!

Holy ****, you mean to tell me that a rookie coach, twenty games in, in the end of the season is having trouble coaching a team that lost its All-Star PG and HOF coach-of-23-years?

Friggin Corbin sucks!

Then trade the vets!

Jeez who the hell are these people? It's not like we're rolling with Tim Duncan or Kobe Bryant here.

If vets want to bitch and moan, then ship them off.

Judging by our record, no one deserves to feel like they're safe. If anything Big Al, Millsap, etc should be playing harder to keep their jobs. Al has no where to complain, every team he's "led" have been junkheaps. Maybe he should learn how to box out of play physically instead of chuck up 10 foot "weezies."

Ty could communicate a little better and then there wouldn't be the vets melt downs. I think you can thank KOC and Greggy boy for the mess were in currently.

After listening to AL Jefferson on 1320 today I'm going to give him the benifit of the doubt. I thnk he is frustrated about losing, but when given a chance to criticize Corbin he didn't.

If players (and coaches) weren't upset, I'd be very disappointed.

If some of the upset wasn't directed at each other, they wouldn't be human.

Of course, I've been so discouraged lately, I'm not sure what to think.

I'm glad the jazz already gave him a contract. Almost the best decision of the year next to signing Bell and letting Mathews go.

While I'm not thrilled at all about the Jazz blindly throwing money at Corbin, I don't think his actions vs Washington were unjustified at all. The "vets" were in there getting their pansy asses kicked all over the floor. A bunch of scrubs came in and dug the Jazz out of the hole they were in. Play the guys that want to play and want to play well, not the ones expecting to be gifted minutes even though they're playing like complete and utter ****.

Jefferson has been enough of a beast that he of all the players has earned the PT. I still think they need to play the rooks but not at his expense. Cut AK, CJ, Price, even Saps minutes first. Let Favors play alongside a player more like himself physically. Play Evans less as it is obvious he will not win out a spot next season with potentially 2 second year players and 2 lottery picks all with contracts. In fact IMO Evans should be for garbage time only. But let Jefferson play.

That part is such BS, Sap and AL were next to each other the entire time. Sap acted upset until the young guys started bringing us back. Him and Sap would get excited over the big plays in fourth, like Favors big dunk. He also seemed to be encouraging the young guys during timeouts. I truly think that he just cares about winning more than anything else.
When does Al get the most excited after he does a big play or a teammate? Its when the his teammates like Sap make a big play. After a timeout after he did a big play he just sits there acting like it was no big deal. If a teammate does something big he is constantly grabbing their head, and showing a lot of excitement.

I think if Al is upset at Corbin its because of how Corbin is coaching the TEAM not just Al. I have an enormous amount of respect for how hard Al cares about our team, and how hard he has been playing. He has also shown that he stepped in and became the teams leader. I never noticed him talking during timeouts when Deron was here, now he seems to be talking a lot.

I for one was upset with Corbin for leaving RP in there for so long, after he made one bonehead play after another. Hell, Hayward probably could've run the point better. If it weren't for RP's horrible play, the Jazz would've won in regulation.

How many times have fans screamed at Sloan for taking out the 2nd unit when they were playing well just because it was time to do it? Now, Ty does it and the veterans are crying like babies. Well I think it is about time the Jazz as an organization play the players who seem to want to play with energy and effort. The past environment seemed as though the veterans received their minutes regardless if they earned them. The organization needs to address this issue because if they don't, the situation will only get worse with more young guys coming on board. It seems to me that if you don't want the young guys playing in the fourth quarter then play hard.
