What's new

State of the Union

I would rather listen to one of his rally screeds. As wretched as they are, at least they're a more honest look at what he really stands for, and a look at the only audience he really ever speaks too.

So, I wonder, did he call for unity tonight? Lol. Suckers might by into that line. Tomorrow he'll be back to tweeting his divisive crap. Tomorrow he'll return to being the president for his cult followers.

You should have listened. It was a historical speech. Maybe the best ever.

Have you ever watched one of his rally speeches?

Yes, many times. Both during the 2016 campaign, and since. You may, or may not, recall the many times I have called him a demagogue. So I have watched his rallies, in order to see this particular demagogue in his natural element. I studied the guy, in other words. And the best way to do that is by watching those rallies like a social scientist watching history unfold. You can always see the entirety of those rallies on YouTube, after the fact. And I watch the reaction of his followers at those rallies as well, as I expect it is his most fervent followers who would actually go out of their way to attend.

So yes, I have watched the rallies, and consider it an excellent way to study him.

Lol.

Politico is saying that Trump was 'partly correct' when bringing up the 1 in 3 women get assaulted stat, because it's actually 31%.

What a bunch of hacks.

Yeah. I found the fact checking on that exactly claim to be disengenous.

But can you see now how the rhetoric from the left is dangerous? Why do leftists think violence is ok while at the same time claim moral superiority? Can you not see the hypocrisy?

You speak of violence from the Left. Well, this is what I see, and where I am coming from:

In his rallies, I get to see Trump make full use of the demagogue playbook. And it's not just confirmation bias. He made it easy to see that is exactly what he was/is, by singling out protestors, and urging violence upon them, something he did at several 2016 campaign rallies. Urging violence on Americans who protested his candidacy. Or identifying scapegoats, such as illegal immigrants, upon which his rally goers could focus their anger. Classic demagoguery. To me, that is the real Trump. And that much has been as clear as day since he descended the escalator in Trump Tower and announced he was running.

When you have a society in which intense social, demographic, and cultural change is occurring, and that triggers fear and anxiety among a significant percentage of the populace, the time can be ripe for the emergence of a demagogue who promises to assuage those fears. The Strong Man archetype as it were. That's the real Trump, IMHO of course. I am not here comparing him to any specific individual from history. I am simply pointing out that a Strong Man emergent at this time is no surprise to me, and his use of the demagogue playbook is something I find alarming. I don't like this playbook at all.

In a SOTU speech, I will see Trump making believe he is a president for all Americans. But he is not, and never has been. He never reached out to those who voted for someone other then himself. He has made it clear he cares only for the base that found something to their liking in his demagoguery. Not everyone will see it this way, too many approve of the job he is doing. I really can't help that. I see him as he is, as far as I am concerned. We're way better then this, then Trump as president. But, then again, maybe we get exactly what we deserve. A tumultuous time in our history, hope I live long enough to see calmer emotions prevail, and Putin, who must be enjoying all this immensely, fail in his efforts to see our ship of state, and that of other liberal democracies, flounder irreversibly.

This book along with “How Democracies Die” and Snyder’s recent material should be mandatory reading for all Americans.

Apparently Pelosi owned Donald last night. There’s a gif of her applauding as if congratulating her child for eating all of his peas at dinner. Lol

What a cluster

I’d like to see us getting rid of the entire spectacle. One side slobbers over their boy while the other side makes it a point to be disrespectful and obstinate. I don’t necessrily blame pelosi for doing that. Trump has antagonized the population so much that everyone outside of his brain dead 35 percent recognize that his talk is cheap. But I just don’t like demeaning the House chamber with one side chanting “USA USA USA” while the other gives the president demeaning applause.

I have concerns over Congress acting like a bunch of drunk college kids chanting “USA USA USA!”

To me this is immature and jingoistic. Completely unbecoming of the chamber they’re sitting in. Save the “USA USA USA” chants for the Olympics, not for the SOTU address. It’s not a good demonstration of what democracy is supposed to look like.

Remember when we were supposed to be a shinning city on a hill?

Yeah, maybe you missed the part where Trump got the democrats to initiate a USA chant. Good LOL moment.

Intelligence agencies are part of the Illuminati. Hasn't that card game NPCD spams us with taught you nothing?

You're one smart cookie. I knew she was up to something, but to think it was all about the Illuminati is truly disturbing.

I never would have figgurt it out.

Apparently Donald whined about the brown horde again last night. You’d think such a dangerous threat would’ve been reported last week when the members of the intelligence community testified before congress. Right? Those caravans should definitely take priority over North Korea and Russia.

Yeah I didn’t watch it. Why would I? You find this president to be illuminating or inspiring?

Trump fooled democrats into initiating the chant?

Talk about self own. Doesn’t that actually reinforce the point I made wishing that we got rid of the entire spectacle? Thanks infection for making my point for me.
