Steve Jobs dead at 56

It's sad in that 56 is too young to die, but he made his mark on the technological landscape. He established his legacy.

Now maybe Apple will quit trying to sue anyone and everyone who tries to manufacture an accessory for their products.

I just want them to stop suing everyone who makes a product that is a threat. Man up and make a better product, don't take the cowards way out and cry that someone has something better than you.

Quit blabbering and start talking about what products are so much better.

Who has a better laptop?

Who has a better tablet?

Who has a better phone?

I've had two iPhones. The first one was dropped in a swimming pool and it still works perfectly. My 3 year old plays with it to this day. I would have gone through about 5 phones in the time I have had my two iPhones.

I also just bought an iPad today. I shopped around an no tablet came close.

You're just jealous you didn't buy one of these babies:

https://www.engadget.com/2011/10/05/indias-35-tablet-is-here-for-real-called-aakash-costs-60/

The problem with Apple is they have one useful tool, the desktop computer. Everything else is overpriced garbage. And even with their desktops, a tornado could crash through a computer parts warehouse and put together a more powerful machine for ~ $300.

just my opinion here, but I really think some of you are completely missing the significance of the vision Steve Jobs had for personal computing - without him, I'm convinced we (as in those of us in our everyday, at home, personal lives) would probably be about 10-15 years behind where we are now. Like Henry Ford, he had a vision to create a technology for everyday use. The innovation that was going on in the computing industry was geared towards techies, and business and engineering applications and he changed that.

Who has a better laptop?

Macbook, dead in under a year. HP laptop still going strong after 6 years. Dell laptop lasted 5 until we upgraded.

Who has a better tablet?

Who has a better phone?

I also detailed some of the issues with the iPhone, known bugs they refuse to fix. Remember the dropped call fiascos and all the denials Apple made even when it was obviously faulty hardware? Finally it was the carrier's problem. Sure it was. They even moved away from true warranties so they can't be held responsible for crap.

If you are still unable to turn Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on or off after attempting these steps, contact Apple or your wireless carrier for additional assistance.

So we called. They told us we were up in the night. The supervisor who got on the phone told my wife she just doesn't understand technology. AT&T finally helped us where Apple refused, since they all had the attitude that since their product is obviously perfect it is the consumers who are wrong. Wi-fi still goes out randomly and I have to reset the network settings to get it working again. I had a similar problem with my Blackberry bold. They just sent me a new one. No problem.

My daughter has a crappy samsung that has been through 3 family members, dropped in a sink full of water, in someones pocket when they jumped into a lake, and was stepped on so it cracked the screen. Know what? It still takes and makes calls just fine, and even takes pics and such, although with a cracked screen it doesn't look pretty, it still works.

Look, you are an apple diehard. Good for you. They produce pretty good products, but they are far from nirvana. And as soon as someone starts to threaten their market they sue instead of producing something better. Instead of actually competing they just try to squash the competition, ala Microsoft (maybe the Gates/Jobs friendship/rivalry there). They are great when they are lucky enough to get into the market or tech ahead of everyone else, they are lousy playing catch-up.

So quit blabbering about how you have been brainwashed by Apple into believing they are the only tech company in the world and look around and find out how many more tech companies and products are out there that compete with and beat apple at their own game.

I've had plenty of other tech gadgets from other companies. I've had toshiba, hp, gateway laptops, the google phone and about 20 blackberrys. They all crap out, screens go out, hard drives crash and viruses slowing them down.

It wasn't until I started seeing the quality of my IPhone that made me switch. I'm not a apple lover die hard like others, but nobody can compete with their quality and all other companies are trying to catch up to them. So they now get my money.

glorification of the individual is irrational, jobbs wass mereley reproducing the work of others why do people fixate solely on him

not that i dont care that he lost his live. I do.

any loss of live is regrettable whether the person cured cancer or accomplished nothing. it is evenly regrettable

I have a long and painful history with Apple products, from the Apple II all the way to the Macbook and iPhones and iPads. I have found them no better quality-wise than any of their competitors, with the caveat that you get what you pay for, so if you buy cheap discount computers you are going to get cheap discount performance and service. But with Apple you pay premium prices and get ok products with ****TY service.

Our Apple II died after 6 months. It could not be revived and we moved on to IBM. My wife's Macbook could not run basic software that she needed without crashing, then the motherboard died (RAM interface went bad), we switched to HP and that laptop has lasted years with zero issues. My wife's iPhone 4 has been returned to Apple 3 times now because of the faulty headphone sensor that causes the phone to route all sound to the headphones whether there are headphones in the jack or not (a known issue with the iPhone 4). They still haven't gotten it right and they won't replace the phone either, so we either buy a new one or live with it. They also tried to charge us for the 3rd repair job. My son's iPad 2 locked up when streaming content from the internet. It has been returned more than once to repair since a reset and update of firmware did not fix it. It still locks up occasionally and no one knows why (another known issue we are told, but less common than the iPhone problem). Again Apple's wonderful return policies are such that they won't replace it. They are anything but perfect products the way the Apple zealots would have you believe. No doubt they have done a lot to push the envelope and cause others to advance their tech as well to keep up, but as a product set they are pretty much average quality and as a company they pretty much suck.

Don't even get me started on the 2 times iTunes has wiped out my wife's music catalog that she bought from other internet sources (mostly amazon) that just disappeared the first time iTunes raped her computer pulling in and ****ing with all the media.

Sorry, didn't mean to get off-topic when this should be about Jobs and his contributions. Just that Apple is not as impressive to me as it might be to others, and the loss of money and time and hair due to frustration is enough to make it a trigger-point for me.

Wow, for someone who hates Apple so much, you sure have purchased a lot of their products. I'm fine with Apple and I haven't bought half of the stuff you have.

to you they are a better product. but we have our own individuality. so i want to have the choice to choose something different(better according to my needs). so apple should shut the **** up and make better products(according to my needs). rather than sue the company which according to my needs/oppionion has the "better" product.

for example they want to use the multitouch as copyright seriously? it ha been arround since 1982.
the tablet shape and form? they invented that thats why they sue? ooh really take a look at for example star trek or even better 2001 a space oddessy. or even better take a look at this tablet the hp tc1100
Image00021_small.jpg
. from 2001 if i'm not mistaken. sure its not white or black but it looks like an ipad.
yet crapple claims they own the likeness of a tablet. thats why they are sueing samsung
do you see sony sueing samsung for flatscreen tv likeness? no they jsut go on and try to "outbuild" "outdesign" eachother.

every one thinks apple "invented" the tablet. or invetted "app" well i have known the word app has been used for decades. back in the day every serious computer tinkerer had an APPS cd or an apps folde ron his computer. yet when i go to fix a friends pc and pull out a cd labeled apps they think wow apple apps. no retard its aplication thats why now i renamed that cd to tools.

one thin apple is good at is shining **** making it gold and selling it.
they are geniuses at marketing and enterprising pure genius
they should man up.

Wow, for someone who hates Apple so much, you sure have purchased a lot of their products. I'm fine with Apple and I haven't bought half of the stuff you have.

I do not rule my family with an iron fist. My dad bought the Apple II as our family's first forray into the PC. When my wife got her Macbook on sale through a friend, we figured why not. When it died and she still needed a laptop, I bought her the HP. My son wanted an iPad for graduation. My wife wanted an iPhone because her brother had one and she liked how easy it was to use (until she owned it and found it wasn't so easy). If I had my way in everything I would own no Apple products. But I have had enough of them to be able to form a solid opinion about it.

That said, I said that I thought that Apple makes decent stuff. It is just not the God of All Tech the way so many would have you believe. They have been plenty innovative and pushed the envelope so other companies develop good stuff too. There are always issues on the bleeding edge of technology. I just don't see the same rabid zealousness for many other companies that you do for Apple. This video is so true (not embeded here due to language):

You guys are archering this thread. I'm a android guy, I'm grateful for Jobs and all that he's done in improve technology. RIP.

I think most people don't realize the shear genius that it takes to invent something and then convince people they need to own it.

100 years from now they'll be talking about Jobs like they talk about Edison now.

What did he invent? I'm not saying he didn't invent anything, but from what I know he mostly improved on existing technology and put it in a pretty package.

Diamond Rio was the first portable MP3 player I know of. Blackberry made the first smart phones, I think. He certainly didn't invent the home computer.

He was much more of a marketing genius than he was a technology genius in my opinion.

That said, my condolences to his family.

yes agree.

You can't say he didn't invent anything, he invented the programming and software that made the apple gadgets so easy and fun to use.
