Stunning: Nuggets fire both Coach & GM ….

It sounds like Coach and GM hated each other's guts. Not unlike DL and Quin. Ownership must have grown tired of it and pulled the trigger.

Fire the GM, keep the coach through the playoffs. THEN fire the coach. I think firing both is insane just 4 games out of the playoffs.

The Nuggets obviously have a new coach waiting in the wings. Denver had been trending the wrong way lately (like Memphis), so they decided to try the "shock to the system" approach.

This move was definitely not just about Malone and Booth hating each other.

The timing of this seems strange on the surface but it makes sense if ownership was frustrated with them. If you keep them around and they make a big run in the playoffs which is certainly possible then you are almost forced to move forward with both guys for at least another couple years. This allows them a clean slate and they are still very capable of making a title run if the top 5 is healthy.

Feels like the Nuggets ownership saw everyone freak out about how unprecedented the Grizzlies firing Jenkins was and said "that + 1".

Crazy timing.

We also got eliminated by Dallas in 2001 because Booth got an easy layup.

Firing a coach who won you a ring isn't shocking?
Not at all, lots of recent winners no longer with their teams. Add to that when you have the best player in the league, most of the credit goes to that player over the coach- i.e. there are probably 50 coaches that could have won at least one championship in Malone's tenure with the same roster construction. He's a good coach, but in no world is he irreplaceable.

I think their GM Calvin Booth fell short. They're playing Zeke Nnaji and Deandre Jordan, while relying on Russel Westbrook. There have to have been better moves available.

The Cavs got Deandre Hunter for Levert, Niang and 2RPs.

I'm not surprised that it was Malone who got the axe next, but the timing is pretty crazy. Coaches who win championships and coach of the year get fired all the time. Expectations create pressure, and once the Nuggets climbed to the top of the mountain people were going to start getting unhappy unless they found themselves there again and again. I don't think Malone necessarily deserved to get fired, but I wouldn't say he was an elite coach so not much is lost there. Calvin Booth has actually done a bad job and I know he was beefing with Malone, not surprised he got fired but I am surprised they fired both sides of the beef lol.

If the Celtics don't win, Mazzula is going to be on the hot seat right away. That's just how these things go.

Sure, in the off-season or at the start. Anyone who is saying they aren't shocked by this is full of ****
The timing is crazy. The ownership is either galaxy brain trying too hard to save the season or they didn't believe they could make a run at all (Murray has been out and maybe he won't be getting healthy). Its super wild.

If you wanted to ease tension and shake things up I could see firing the GM. Its a move you were going to do otherwise and maybe the players end up "fighting" for their coach's job. IDK just crazy town.
