Stupid Pet Peeves

People who correlate appreciating a skill or talent as celebrity worship.

There are probably 100,000,000 people who can sing really well on this planet. Same goes for playing any given instrument. Let's pick a dozen of them and act like they are special.

Yea, there are some who play well. There are very few who play/sing exceptionally. Most of these people do. Again, appreciating/recognizing a talent is not worship. That's just an absurdly stupid hot take.

Agreed, but there are only a handful who can write, play, and perform live really well and even fewer who can do that for multiple years consistently (and even fewer who consistently get better each release and innovate).

Holy ****. I can appreciate talent. I just don't care about the person who is talented. I don't care what they think about **** that has nothing to do with their talent. I don't care what kind of car they drive. I don't care who's shirts they ware. I don't care who they're voting for. I don't care who they're ****ing.

You can appreciate talent all you want and I'm not calling that celebrity worship. Once you start worrying about the talented person's personal life, I call that celebrity worship. These people are not a special kind of human. They are a regular kind of human with a special talent.

I think you led yourself into this mess.

When people say "the fence needs fixed" or "that paperwork needs done" instead of saying "the fence needs to be fixed" or "that paperwork needs to be done."

Basically, "to be or not to be, that is the question."

I like music, BUT couldn't care less about musicians. THESame THINGgoes for actors. I like a well acted movie, BUT Idon't care who the people on screen, date or what they think about politics.

I see what you did there. Well played.

The shameless self promotion by radio stations. "Hi, we are the best so you should listen to us." Next commercial, "did you know we are the number one station on the planet?" "Utah's original alternative station. Can you believe all this music WE discovered for YOU?" Umm, yeah, I'm listening to you right now so I don't think the advertising is necessary. Also, that music YOU discovered... I'm pretty sure they were all Billboard hits that everyone has heard but good job bringing it to my ears.

1280thezone/97.5 are the worst. I can barely listen to them between this and the stupid antagonistic schticks that the entire Jazz organization thinks are cute. If you are PK, it works. If you are Harpring or Spence it is completely lame. Checketts has got to be the most obnoxious person on the airwaves. "Oh Gordon you are so stupid hahahaha. I can't believe..." Station changed. I genuinely feel bad for Gordon Monson for having to work with that tool.

OK, since you brought up Spence Checketts I'll mention another pet peeve of mine. It's when people use *almost* the right word for the sentence, but one which actually doesn't at all have the meaning they were going for. Spence does this ALL THE TIME. Like mixing up "perspicacious" with "perspiration". Or "tact" and "tack". That type of thing. Two words which sound kind of the same but actually don't mean anything alike. Maybe I'll jot down some that he actually uses next time I hear one. But I'd say at least 50% of the time I listen to 20 minutes of Spence and Gordon on my ride home from work I'll hear one of those.

Companies that bother me with follow up call surveys about my experience with them.

I like putting other people's phone numbers & E-mails on those free gym membership contests in the mall. I had one friend that started getting phone calls for a Mr. Harry Balsich. He was so mad.

That's actually the standard spelling in British English. Not that it can't still be a pet peeve of course...
To be honest, I thought I did it wrong because I was from Canada, kind of like colored pencils/pencil crayons...but Google agrees with me that it's gray. That's interesting that grey is probably technically correct though.

When people spell gray, grey.

When is the correct time to use each spelling?
I have always been confused by that.
