Summer League: Jazz vs. Pacers Thursday 1 pm MST

The only way he will get there is in game experience. Wish the guys at P3 where playing a game with him every day.

I think the summer with Turkish NT will be very good for him. There will be 15+ games between the 23rd July-11th September.

He has taken a handful of midrange jumpers this week and brick most of the ones I have seen. His midrange game is more of a myth right now than it is an actual thing.

I think it was in the game against Philly...I remember him taking two mid range jumpers and knocking them both down. Not saying he's great at it yet, but there's a base there and I want to see him become more confident with it.

1st of all westbrook is not one of my favourite players. I like real PGs who thinks passing 1st. Second i believe in Westbrook's shooting attempts, pushing too much all comes from their team structure and coaching. They need to find points from perimeter players and their big men there just need to make defense, rebounding. Third, even he is pushing too much he can still make plays and easy buckets for Perkins and Ibaka. And i see Burks do not have ability to make plays as being combo guard. He can not control the game tempo ( He always wanna game speed up), seems having hard time on close press while he is taking the ball on the half court and do not have the court vision set to set on offense.

Wow, you must hate EVERY point guard in the league.

Burks can not play PG in the NBA, no need to overrate the summer league. He does not have neither handling ability of PG nor view for the passes. In fact he is generally obsessive to go to the rim instead of finding open man. It seems he is gonna be Corey Maggette type of player who draws fouls very well and find points but not in less attempt
We're all critiquing him like we expect Burks to be our STARTING PG. Yes, I agree. He cannot be a starting PG in the league. He may not even bet the primary backup. But 22/7 with 5 assists was pretty darn impressive.

Don't we want guards who can penetrate, especially given our talented bigs? You have Burks drive and attract the double team and have a big cut to the hoop for an easy layup (or dunk). Don't even assume he plays AT PG. You can have Alec initiate plays/drive while Mo stays at the arc for the kick-out if needed. The more versatility the team has, the better.

Is that something we should be proud of though? I know what you are saying but this guy should seem A LOT better than Ostertag
Can't really compare the two. Ostertag had NO Offensive moves. Kanter has a couple and needs to add a couple more.
Ostertag was a very good defender and shot-blocker. Kanter has the ability to play tough defense with his body, but isn't going to block many shots.

But yeah, everyone (including myself) should lighten up. Kanter is one of the youngest and least-experienced players in the league. I think he'll be a good player for us. Don't know if he'll ever be great, but he'll probably be at least a guy who plays 25 mins/per and averages a double-double.

Surprisingly similar with one exception...assist rate. Might tie into usage, but the different in usage is not nearly as wide as the difference in assist rate.

Burks was also much more efficient in scoring, leading to a higher win share/48.

This thread is full of a lot of wishful thinking. People only see what they want to see. And if Enes is a project, then why do you draft him at number 3 -- maybe 23, but not 3.

Because the Jazz weren't one immediate contributor away from winning the title?

You don't always draft the man who's going to be the best player 2 months later. Sometimes, you actually think long term.

Who were we supposed to take at #3 that year. When there is no one worth taking that high you may as well go with the project big, who could end up to being very good in a few years. Or you could go with a mediocre talent like Knight or or walker. In the end skilled bigs don't grow on trees.

I thought KOC made the right pick just after the pick, and still do.

I'm not suggesting we pick and choose which games to look at as a snapshot of what a player could be. But if we take Kanter's first summer league game out of the equation, which I think is fair given his age, inexperience, travel and weight gain, and no-show in that first foreign game last summer, he's done very well.

In the last three games, he's shot 15-24 for 62.5% from the floor, 4-6 for 66.6% from the line for 11.3 points per game, grabbed 10.3 rebounds per game, dished out 1.3 assists, and has 1.3 steals. So given the fact that he's just 20 and came in 20 pounds heavier, I'm quite excited, one hell of a 180 from the last couple days. Like many of you said, we need him to rebound, play solid defense, and work on his offense. I think he's doing that.

I attribute a lot of his turnovers to my assumption that the staff told him to work on his post game, turnovers be damned in some ways. So I can live with those, at least a little. I would like him to recognize the double/triple teams better though, hell even draw those purposefully, and then react by dishing it out to the open man. This, and showing more confidence in his jumper and taking some would make me stoked. The kid has one hell of a stroke for a kid his size.

So, yeah, I will be a man on here publicly and say I am excited for what he could be.

and you refuse to see the big picture. Kanter is already a very good rebounder, very strong man defense in the post, and good touch from mid range out to 12-15 feet, good footwork in the post. Fortunately for him his biggest weaknesses are experience and shot mechanics in the post. Both can be fixed with time and coaching.

Time will tell. Right now, I'm not impressed. And the biggest reason is that I don't see improvement from last season. That's what I was expecting. But nada -- sure he can rebound, he's big and strong, but that's about it. We saw that from day one.

So you saw nothing you liked in the last two games at all. Double doubles don't happen often in summer league do to the extra players on the roster and shorter games, and two in a row for Kanter. Or did you only watch the first two games?

Because he wouldn't have lasted to the 23rd pick. Look at the draft and see if he would have even gotten past 6 or 7th pick. Enes was on every mock draft a top 5 guy. The draft was not a particularly strong draft so Enes was chosen a little higher than he did.

I don't think Kanter showed up 20 lbs heavier. He just said, he gained 20 lbs when he went to Turkey. He has been at P3 and he seems like he is game shape. I don't see a 20 lbs. gain in the SL.

Agree. If he was 20 over he'd be at about 285-290 and I thought I heard said during SL he was listed at 260. Of course that could be wrong, but that's what I heard.
