I have a big chip on my shoulder about the way Q has coached certain players (no surprises Exum being my main beef).... BUT
I have always thought he was an extremely effective game day coach, a great reader of the game, hardworking and a very thoughtful interviewee.

That statement he made yesterday about Gordo's departure was OUTSTANDING. If I was a player on the Jazz reading that I would be so inspired. I would look at that statement everyday until training camp and let it fuel me to be someone who contributed to fill the tremendous void that has opened up. My bias against Q stems from my fear that he doesn't really believe in Exum. And truth be told, if someone as knowledgeable as Q has doubts - how can I really be convinced that X will sort it out.

I think I would have taken Hayward's departure as a personal slight if I were him. Especially given the bond that exists with Stevens. But Q is an adult, modest, a gentleman and a professional.

His statement alone can do a lot to quickly 'heal' the Jazz.

I think you are seeing this all backwards. Snyder is tough on X and challenging him. Not out of doubt but because he can see more than what has been given. And so far this SL, yes its only SL, he appears to be right.

Player development is the last place that I will question Snyder and his coaching staff on.

Yep I get this take. Hope this is right.

But I resent the role Exum has played in his two seasons. And that is a decision he makes.
My questions around Q were that he seemed to really impact his confidence and screwed around with his minutes. He seemed to have a very different approach with the way he even talked about Exum than almost any other player.

It didn't matter how bad Burke use to play or Hood last year, Q was always there with the confidence boosting public speeches etc. That might appear to be a little thing, but it was noticeable. And this whole idea that Exum if he is good enough should just thrive is super deficient to me. I think it is feasible that a really talented kid may struggle to impose himself on games when he knows that his coach will pull him. That tough love coaching might work out. Hope so.

Because to this point, Exum is a racecar Q hasn't figured out how to drive.

Last night I heard that Exum was younger than 11 first round picks this year and he is going into his 4th year in the NBA. Kind of brings things into perspective.

I think Snyder took the slow, long term approach because Exum was, and still is, so young. Plus a lost year. Now, if we fail to see growth this year I will start to worry. but so far he has dominated SL.

To use your race car analogy. I think it is less about learning how to drive it than it is getting ready to drive.
 
Exum looks so damn good. I know Donovan has stolen some thunder there but I have never been higher on X.

The pull up 3s while slow are going in and it looks really comfortable. That opens up his drive game. The awkward layups are now the right type of awkward layup... off the wrong foot to mess up the other teams timing. It's all quite beautiful.

The one thing that hasn't changed... dude gets hammered by tarscewski on the dunk... no foul even in summer league no respect for Dante.
 
Williams Goss had 9 points last night. How about Eric Griffin? 14 points 8 boards. That tied for the high rebounder in the game and he played less minutes than the Sixers guy.

For whatever can be taken from one summer league game, NWG looked atrocious-- a step or two slow on both ends of the floor, showed zero court vision, his shot was blocked repeatedly, turned the ball over repeatedly, etc. He doesn't look like an NBA player, or even a developmental league player at this point.

Exum is coming along nicely. Bambi to Buck. Pimples to, well his face is still jacked up.

We are seeing the elite speed put into action. Also seeing some shooting off the dribble.
The 3 pt shot looks solid. I like his vision/passing.

There is a lot to like, and be excited about. He was challenged and didn't complain on twitter, he manned up and is working hard.

Yeah. Watching the game live, you could see where there has been some maturity both physically and mentally. I expect a lot more to come as well. My biggest complaint last night was that he was lazy with his handle brining the ball up the court, and that he started to coast a little when they were up by 22. Reminded me of the Dallas game where the Jazz got up big, started jacking around and ended up blowing that lead and losing. Games like that will cost the Jazz the playoffs here for the near future. Just seems like a young dude lack of focus issue. I'm hoping that he fixes that in the future, because there was an awful lot to be excited about in the game. My wife loved that Exum and Mitchell already have great chemistry and I liked that both guys were intense on the defensive end. The 76ers wanted to be intense and physical, and the Jazz matched that intensity and then Mitchell and Griffin increased it. Also have to say that I think Bradley will have a lot of potential as a pick and roll big. He seems very nuanced in setting screens even as a rookie. Rudy will help him get even better in that regard.

It's only SL but you can see a lot more awareness in his demeaner.He's starting to show a sense of purpose in his play.Writers were saying wait til the light goes on.I think it's turned on and we could see his confidense rise fast.

He was also the team leader. During every stoppage, he was the guy getting instructions and relaying them to everyone else. He would talk Mitchell through his mistakes and you could see him helping Donovan understand what he could do better. That's the kind of subtle things that we haven't seen before. He seemed to be worlds more confident than I've ever seen him.

I think that started to happen last year after the all star break, the kid looks like he believes he belongs in the league.

About Bradley, when he rolls he he just doesn't roll towards the rim. He sidesteps, takes the defender into his back and stays where he can get the pass and get his shot off easily. He won't be able to do that in NBA where everything is faster and but it is nice to see.

Oh, no doubt. Kid needs to live and breathe P3 for the next few years. He has tools to work with, but he needs strength and explosion. Love seeing a nuanced game out of a rookie. I feel he was the best center that I saw yesterday. Better than Zizic, or Tarczewski or anybody else on the Spurs or 76ers. That surprised me. I have hope that he's going to be a solid rotational big down the road.
 
I can see the appeal of Tony Bradley. He has an NBA frame and an NBA game. He just knows how to play. Great hands and subtle timing on his moves. Knows how to use the space he's given. Rebounds instinctively for a young player. I could see him developing into a Brad Daugherty-type big in a few years if he wants it.
