What's new

Summer League (overall)

Monroe, Drummond, Mitchell, and Smith (FA). They'll have the same problem as us last year though, not enough time for all of them.

Probably Smith will play extended minutes at the 3. Otherwise expect a trade to happen, which would make no sense, as Monroe and Drummond complement each other nicely.

Yes, I envision the depth chart as follows:

C - Drummond/Monroe
PF - Monroe/Smith
SF - Smith/Mitchell

...maybe spot minutes for a fifth big. Regardless, plenty of PT for the 3 starters. Mitchell could see some decent burn, especially if one of the starters goes down.

Brandon Knight is critical for that franchise. They could be one damn good team if he's a franchise PG.

Have there been any Brandon Jennings or Jeff Teague to Detroit whispers? Or are they happy with B Knight?

I think they want a player who can develop on both ends. Olynyk is like Okur. His stats are going to look great, but then he'll just give up 2 on the other end.

What makes you think Steven "Absolutely no scoring touch or instincts" Adams can develop on both ends?

Thank you.. I warned he should go late teens.. bleh.

Well to be fair, you can't use one game as a tell-all for one player and cast one game aside for the other.

I'm not especially worried about Burke because of one game, but it sure wasn't a good sign that he, well, pretty much sucked.

Don't forget how long it took for Hayward to get up to NBA speed & level of play... let alone Favors.

Give Burke at least 1 year of solid NBA game time and I think he'll be alright...

It really was only his shooting that sucked. So I wouldn't say he was to terrible. I think everyone just had an exaggerated expectation for him in his first game. We'll see I'm sure he will adjust in these next couple of games.

And don't forget how many people were writing Kanter's epitaph last year.

i was actually impressed with mcw for most part

made some nice passes and he looked good attacking

shot is way ugly though and made a lot of mistakes

MCW had impressive aggressiveness. Problem is, I don't think what he was doing will translate to the NBA at all. He was off balance on a lot of those shots getting over Beverly and Ware - guys way shorter than him. That makes way for a very streaky play style dependent on whether you get the lucky bounce. He didn't look in control. I see what Locke meant when he said MCW doesn't really get above the rim.

His TOs aren't that important - most came when he was still trying to get a feel for the game. Those will go down drastically in coming games. He had a few nice passes too.

It'll be interesting watching mcw though, even more so when the regular season starts. Would like to see how well he adapts to bigger and quicker bodies, and how he will get his shot off when slashing.

So you want to withhold judgement on Burke while you speak a sentence on KCP after 1 game? For my part I thought KCP was solid, his attempt weren't just falling and he had some ill-advised shots that looked bad. But it's not like he'll get a lot of attempt in Detroit anyways to jack up shots like he can in SL when he's the 2nd option behind Drummond.
