The whole... "Lessons learned" based on a few SL games... It's quite preposterous...
I really only posted it to ask Cy if Dean is a xenophobe for saying French prospects are overrated.

Possibly...
At the very least it's incredibly lazy "analysis". Don't know what's in his heart to call it xenophobic, but it's not out of the question. To me the more important part is that it's really bad process and analysis than whether it's because of xenophobia or not.I’m sorry but if you believe that we are done here.

Except for all the black prospects he likes. If he said "black prospects are overrated", you might have a point. But he never said anything like this. Unlike deanondraft. That’s just ****ing ridiculous. French prospects are overrated. No prospects have done anything in the league for over a decade now.
I guess I can start calling Cy racist because he doesn’t like Sexton or Hendricks. Sounds like he doesn’t like black players.

On the French prospects, the samples are really small in general and I think there are about a thousand better things you can judge about a prospect than his nationality. I really don't get this... There are a ton of things you can knock Bilal for. Legitimate basketball things. Things that actually matter on a basketball court. Things that might actually determine his success or failure in the league. His Frenchness is not one of those. That's my 2c.
I said I don't know. But it's possible. When people start singling out other people based on irrelevant characteristics at the very least it makes me do a double take.So Dean is xenophobic towards French guys only? This is really the dumbest conversation I’ll have in awhile until Cy says something dumb again.

But again - whether it's because of xenophobia or not is secondary to it being a really bad take, which was my initial reaction.

Yeah, I also feel like it's very lazy. Connecting players on the basis of them being French is weird to begin with. Being French doesn't make you better or worse as a basketball player. The equivalent of doing that with American or non-French prospects is, absurd lol. But even if you're going to make that connection, it still doesn't mean anything. Gobert didn't mean anything for Frank. Why does Frank mean something for Bilal? I really think that if you're going to like/dislike a prospect it should not be on the basis of if they are French or not.
I'm a huge Bilal guy, but I can recognize there are things that warrant some question marks. Being French isn't one of them.
Level of competition is a legitimate thing to consider(both positive and negative), but I don't think the French league is bad enough to where you shouldn't be able to just scout the player. The French league is at the very least as good as pretty much any college conference in the US IMO. You should be able to just sit down and make a determination about positives and negatives, what projects well, what doesn't, etc. If Bilal doesn't pan out it will be because of things that are already there for everyone to see on his tape - lack of aggression, lack of offensive polish, off the dribble game, questionable shot, etc. If you don't think he can improve enough in those areas, you are absolutely justified in thinking he will bust. The fact that he's lacking all those things in the French league specifically doesn't add much IMO.The French league where the players are playing in is the common denominator. Would it be better to say that prospects who play in the French Pro A league are overrated?

There are not really that many. Especially in the area of the draft where you would expect really high return. There are Hayes and Frank in the lottery... Ousmane Dieng... but Dieng and Hayes didn't even play in the French league before coming to the NBA. Dieng was in Australia/NZ and Hayes played in Germany. If you want to expand it a bit to the 1st round - Sekou Doumbouya is another one that seems like a bust. Yabusele played in China before coming to the US, TLC played in that pink team from Serbia...It’s just wild to me that so many prospects from the French League have busted massively. Just purely on odds alone one or two should have hit.
Brother I said that before SLWhat you said was doing victory laps after a few SL games. After one game of watching JHS you said we made a grave mistake passing on him. Please stop with your bulls**t.

In general since Gobert there have been 3 French players picked in the lottery, only one of them played in the French league immediately before coming to the NBA(Frank). If you expand it to the 1st round you have 6 French players total and only 2 of them played in the French league before coming to the NBA. The sample is really NOT very large.
Damn dude don't hurt his brain with actual critical thinking outside of "French players bad"There are not really that many. Edit: I just realized Yabusele played in the French league before the draft but played 1 year in China before coming to the NBA, so you can add him to the players coming from French league.
