TULSA, Okla. -- Three-time WNBA MVP Sheryl Swoopes is returning to the league, signing a deal with the Tulsa Shock.

Tulsa coach and general manager Nolan Richardson confirmed the signing Monday, a day after The Associated Press reported a deal was imminent.

Swoopes turned 40 last week and last played in the WNBA in 2008 for the Seattle Storm. She's spent the last few years playing overseas and now will join a Tulsa team that finished last season 6-28.

The former Texas Tech star won four WNBA titles while playing with the now-defunct Houston Comets. She won her last MVP award in 2005.

Swoopes averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals per game in her career and was part of the league's inaugural season in 1997.

This.

Do owners really make any $ off this garbage?

No, it's been on life support from the NBA since forever. I'm sure it will make a good case for the players union as well in CBA talks. No one will pay to watch inferior pro athletes whether male or female.

Are you saying that the top female professional league in the world consists of inferior athletes?

There's something sexist in there... where's Katie when you need her, she can speak for both sides so we can settle this!

Wrong. No MEN want to watch the WNBA, but it has quite a following amongst those who like to dress up as men and their "wives" or girlfriends. Not that there's anything wrong with that. To each, her own, I say - or whatever gender-neutral prononun is now poltically correct to use.

Has anyone here actually tried to sit down and watch an entire game? I did once... tried that is. I made it to half time, then took a nap.

hey, did anybody besides me watch the Women's NCAA Championship game between Notre Dame and Texas A & M? It was a great game - - and that's even before comparing it to the travesty that took place in the men's division between UConn and Butler!
