Talent-Wise, Who Has a Higher Ceiling - Kanter or Favors?

Yeah agreed. It's not a knock on Kanter. I think he can be great too. My pre-draft posts/predictions can attest to that.

But the physicality of Favors alone is just ridiculous. That's something you can't teach. It's like Dwight + Amar'e all rolled into 1. But whether or not he can learn the skills necessary to utilize that potential is another story all together.

I mean.. look at what Carl Landry can do with his body... Favors still has a long ways to go.

I'd say he's already more offensively skilled than Dwight.

Kanter is going to be an absolute Bully in the post, once he gets the experience and paitence to match his skillset. I feel Favors will really develop into a defensive anchor, who can play great off the pick and roll and hit mid range shots. A better version of chandle.

So Kanter is my choice

Who cares? This is the absolute wrong question to be asking and the question that needs to be asked in the minds of management is 'who has a higher ceiling: Al/Paul or Favors/Kanter?' Neither will reach their ceiling until Al is moved. If we lose Paul and retain Al, you can bet big we're eyeballing someone like Elton Brand to 'fill the void'.

What does that have to do with this thread? Why isn't it the "Right question" to ask who has more potential between our two future bigs? It's not like you're providing some amazing insight to the forum, about what questions we should be asking, considering nearly 90% of the threads here ask that same exact question. Don't ruin a unique thread, just to bring the same narrative that's been beaten to death on this forum.

Stop making irrelevant post, just so you can further the extremely pessimistic approach certain posters have to every topic.

Perhaps the more interesting question is which of the two players will actually realize the highest portion of their potential?

To the OP question..... Favors definately has the higher cealing.

To phippsj's question.... kanter will realize the highest portion of his potential.

Why do fans see physical talent and pay zero credit to mental talent (errr "potential")? It's not like super athletic guys can transform their brain any more than super brainy guys can transform their athleticism. "Realizable potential" seems to imply that Favors has no blocks in his road other than his own drive. That's like saying Kanter can transform his body into Kevin Garnett if he tries hard enough.

I think that's what people are doing here, Frank.

Kanter may eventually be the better offensive player. But Favors is the better overall player now and has the higher upside.

I don't disagree with this line of thinking. I do, however, disagree with the idea that Kanter is light years ahead of Favors in terms of BBIQ, or that Favors has zero drive.

So who will be better?

Very tough question, and i think it will be very close.

If i had to pick though, i would say favors will be the better all around player and have a bigger impact in games than kanter.... but not by much.

P.S. I worry about favors foot though and that would definately change everything.

This is my prediction, as well.

I don't even know why this is being discussed. Cause both of these bad azz mo' fos' are playing for the Jazz. If you want to debate maybe we should be asking who would be harder to replace. And in my eyes it's Favors. A big man with the defense awareness that he brings is hard to find now days.

It's close... It's up to them to decide whether they want to become star players or not. What do you like more? The combination of freakish athleticizm, explosiveness and defensive skills or freakish strength, footwork and touch? Both are great rebounders. While Kanter is a beast on the glass, Favors can alter shots. But I give the edge to Kanter because I think he has a better motor and more of this killer instinct and might have a better work ethic. Kanter can do it all on the offensive end while Favors will be more limited. Both have good chances to become All-Star players. Favors is a better passer and defender... It's very close and a tough decision... Favors is better suited for the Center position. Kanter would be better at the Power Forward position. It's a long time ago since the Jazz had a shot blocker and defensive presence of Favor's caliber and it's a long time ago we had a bruiser and a tough player like Kanter. In two years, this duo will be the best big man duo in this league. Book it! Kanter and Favors bring more to the table and can help this team win games more than Jefferson and Millsap even if both of them are still a little bit raw and not completly ready. I'd take size, rebounding, defense and effort over undersized, careless and effortless players that seem inconsistent and only care about the offensive end... It might sound a little bit hard, but Jefferson and Millsap won't get us any further than the first round. They are not better than Boozer and Okur. Favors and Kanter definitely have more tools to help this team win. Kanter can dominate on the offensive end while Favors will be a beast on the defensive end. Neither is Kanter a liability on the defensive end nor is Favors one on the offensive end. I hate our front office for letting two beasts damned on the bench and getting them 10-15 minutes per game. Jefferson is a liability in the defensive end and is soft while Millsap is undersized and quite inconsistent. He is limited. Don't get me wrong, both are good players but not great. Kanter and Favors can become great players. They are so talented and deserve better treatment. The sky is the limit for them. Millsap is a sixth man on a good team and should be realistic. He still thinks he is great. You would be a good spark off the bench for a contending team but you are not as good as you think you are... He should think more about what is better for this team than his ego. It's all about the team and not if you start or not. Millsap is better suited to come off the bench and should accept this.

I'd agree Kanter has a slight advantage at this point. The lack of offensive development of Favors in his third year has silently tempered our expectations.
