Talent-Wise, Who Has a Higher Ceiling - Kanter or Favors?

Favors could be Stoudemire. Kanter is a throw back big man, maybe Moses Malone. I think both ceilings are pretty high and pretty equal. Jazz could be very lucky if they stick with them and give them the means and opportunity to grow.

It's close... It's up to them to decide whether they want to become star players or not. What do you like more? The combination of freakish athleticizm, explosiveness and defensive skills or freakish strength, footwork and touch? Both are great rebounders. While Kanter is a beast on the glass, Favors can alter shots. But I give the edge to Kanter because I think he has a better motor and more of this killer instinct and might have a better work ethic. Kanter can do it all on the offensive end while Favors will be more limited. Both have good chances to become All-Star players. Favors is a better passer and defender... It's very close and a tough decision... Favors is better suited for the Center position. Kanter would be better at the Power Forward position. It's a long time ago since the Jazz had a shot blocker and defensive presence of Favor's caliber and it's a long time ago we had a bruiser and a tough player like Kanter. In two years, this duo will be the best big man duo in this league. Book it! Kanter and Favors bring more to the table and can help this team win games more than Jefferson and Millsap even if both of them are still a little bit raw and not completly ready. I'd take size, rebounding, defense and effort over undersized, careless and effortless players that seem inconsistent and only care about the offensive end... It might sound a little bit hard, but Jefferson and Millsap won't get us any further than the first round. They are not better than Boozer and Okur. Favors and Kanter definitely have more tools to help this team win. Kanter can dominate on the offensive end while Favors will be a beast on the defensive end. Neither is Kanter a liability on the defensive end nor is Favors one on the offensive end. I hate our front office for letting two beasts damned on the bench and getting them 10-15 minutes per game. Jefferson is a liability in the defensive end and is soft while Millsap is undersized and quite inconsistent. He is limited. Don't get me wrong, both are good players but not great. Kanter and Favors can become great players. They are so talented and deserve better treatment. The sky is the limit for them. Millsap is a sixth man on a good team and should be realistic. He still thinks he is great. You would be a good spark off the bench for a contending team but you are not as good as you think you are... He should think more about what is better for this team than his ego. It's all about the team and not if you start or not. Millsap is better suited to come off the bench and should accept this.

Paragraphs please.

Kanter and there is no doubt about it...

He can be great offensively, great in rebounding and also good defensively.

Favors can be average offensively, good in rebounding and great defensively.

But the biggest difference is that Kanter´s work ethik is also great and thats one of the most improtant things to reach success in the NBA.

Very cool. Lots of good answers here. I would love to see Favors at the 5 and Kanter at the 4 - both are still very young, and they're only going to improve.

Kanter and Favors are both potentially great players. Mid-season looks like Milsap is the most disposable player. Al-favor-kanter would be a good rotation

I'd agree Kanter has a slight advantage at this point. The lack of offensive development of Favors in his third year has silently tempered our expectations.

Am I the only one who has seen offensive improvement? He's shooting 70% from the FT for ****s sake. Did anyone expect that by year three? And his passing has been great as of late. Not to mention that spin move has been looking very nice. He can finish with either hand...

He just needs the playing time. I can't believe even jazzfanz is underestimating Favors now. I expect that from casual Jazz fans who don't even know what position he plays, but not here.

I notice it. I still believe Favors in the centerpiece to our teams future. I also believe that he has a higher bb IQ than Kanter has.

I agree. Favors has improved his offense and it's hard to ignore. Kanter has better fundamental for offense, but he has urgent need to improve his fast thinking, relying on instincts and reflexes. He acts like he is using a gamepad to control himself sometimes. But his potential is far more high ceiling holder than most. Potential is not everything, but that much potential is something. I don't think Kanter and Favors have any guilt in this pace of progress they've had. Management should be blamed for it, but their hands are tied since it's the last year of two players that own Favors and Kanter's minutes in the rotation. I believe Jazz will give away one immediately and the other in a more suitable time. Then this team will roll straight to their future.

A year ago some were wondering if Kanter was a bust. Others were nodding their heads at how smart Jersey was for trading Favors. Now were talking about which one of them has the highest ceiling.

We don't need to decide which is better because, unlike Boozer/Millsap or Jefferson/Okur, instead of competing for the same position, they compliment each other and don't expose a glaring weakness in the Jazz's game when both are playing at the same time. Both are much better players than they were a year ago and if they can show similar growth over the next year, then the Jazz will have one of the best -- if not the best -- C/PF duo in the league. I think the future is bright as long as these two are wearing a Jazz uniform.
