Tanking Ranking: Charlotte

In this bizarre season of "Bad Wins" (they hurt our draft position) and advanced metrics, I've put together a "Tanking Ranking System" for evaluating each game as to whether we Jazz fans should feel good about it. Based on this system, we can decide if the team moved forward with our stated strategy of Discovery, Development and Defense. It's a 10-point system, with 9-10 points representing an A, 7-8 B, 5-6 C, 3-4 D and 02 F. Any win – except against the Lakers -- is a “bad win” and merits a -2.
1) +2 if Jazz hold a team under 100 (+2 -- Hornets scored 80)
2) + 2 if Jazz score +100 points -- (0, Jazz scored 83)
3) -2 if Jazz win (-2, Jazz win 83-80)
4) +1 if Burks plays 30 minutes (0, he played 27)
5) +1 if Favors plays 30 minutes (+1, 34)
6) +1 if Burke plays 30 minutes (+1, 36)
7) +1 if Kanter plays 30 minutes (0, 14)
8) -1 if Jefferson/Williams play a combined 30+ (-1, 74)
9) -1 if Lucas plays 5+ minutes (+1, 0)
10) +1 if Jazz have 23+ assists (0, 17)
11) -1 if Jazz have 16+ turnovers (0, 13)
12) +1 if Jazz lose by less than 10 points (0,)

Grade versus Charlotte: 2 points/F

It will be easy for Lindsey to determine Coach Corbin's grade with this system. I'll post this evaluation after each game.

Through 34 games, the Jazz's Tanking Ranking average is 1.001 out of 10 -- definitely an "F". They 1) rarely hold teams under 100 2) rarely score 100 points 3) win too much 4) don't play Burks and Kanter an average of 30 minutes per game 5) play Jefferson/Williams far too much 6) play Lucas too much 7) don't have enough assists 8) have too many turnovers and 9) consistently lose by more than 10 points. Ironically, our "best" games were losses to Indiana and Sacramento in which the team amassed 7 points in each game, generally by playing Burks/Favor/Kanter/Burke more.
