TCU to the Big East; LOL Boise

I love it how TCU is going to the Big East and everyone would be traveling across the country yet we can't have a tournament because the poor student athlete would miss too much school.

And we know that the NCAA is mainly concerned with the student athlete. That's why TCU will never g2 the Big East nor will Texas ever consider moving to the Pac-10............

Personally, I compare Utah and TCU as pawns.

They're the BCS busters. To silence them, the powers that be have now invited them to BCS conferences. Now they'll shut up and drop their BCS cases. Notice how Orrin Hatch hasn't made a peep now that Utah has joined. All of a sudden the BCS is completely fair!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Boise invited before BYU, Houston, Nevada, or any of the other mid-major schools. They've broken the BCS before and easily could have done it again this year. All someone needs to do is shut up Boise St. and basically all threats to this corrupt system will be eliminated.

Thanks Utah and TCU, for being willing prostitutes. You both had the opportunity to give big business the finger. You could have worked to take down the evil empire. Instead, you joined the dark side. All of a sudden the BCS is amazing!

Hope Craig James, Mark May, and the rest of those BCS blowhards tip ya well!

Now them's some SOUR grapes.

BCS guy 1: "How are we gonna deal with these little teams that keep gettin' all up in our BCS?"
BCS guy 2: "They're makin' me crazy."
BCS guy 3: "How 'bouts we just bring 'em in?"
BCS guy 1: "Whatchoo mean?"
BCS guy 3: "Make 'em think they're in the club. That'll shut 'em up. They'll be our little bitches."
BCS guy 2: "Shoo-wee-mama! I love it. We'll control them. I hate that Orrin Hatch. He's such a bag."
BCS guy 1: "Muhahaha..."

Honestly at this point Boise St, Nevada, and Fresno St should all just stay in the WAC. They already have an ESPN deal. The remaining teams in both conferences are pretty weak. They would not have to pay any payout. Their fans could actually watch their games. Hawaii is talking about potentially leaving the WAC, so that would greatly reduce travel costs. They could try to even add UNLV and/or San Diego St, since the WAC would now have the leverage if those teams stayed. It would save them travel costs help the UNLV/Nevada rivalry.

I don't remember the exact number, but it was something like 70-80%(it might have been even higher) of the mtn. channel's viewership comes from within the state of Utah. Comcast has always had an out based on any defections. So basically if you're a Boise fan at this point, you are hoping Comcast pulls the plug on the channel and then the MWC is able to shop itself elsewhere. The other teams in that conference, and the non-football sports for that matter, probably love the Mtn. I'm sure a lot of those teams' fans have seen more games over the past few years than they were seeing previously.

I hate to sound so dramatic, but as I see it, all of these events are leading to one conclusion: Boise State will soon die as a football power.

There is no home for them. I can't see why the Big 10 would want to expand to Idaho, the Pac12 won't need them when it's time to go to 16 teams and the Big12 will be gone once the Pac12 expands.

Boise has been a nice story for a while now but I just don't see how they can mantain it over the long haul. You may have a windfall recruiting year or two based off the past BCS Busting success but you can't mantain it year in and year out when you're in Boise's position. Why do you think Utah bolted as soon as they could? Obviously $$$$ was the main reason but because of that money/exposure they will now be able to recruit on a whole new level.

Boise has topped out. There is literally nowhere else to go for them. Coaches are going to start seeing the glass ceiling as well as recruits. 5 years from now they will be a shadow of what they are today and 10 years from now they'll simply be a footnote and a fun memory of what the "little guy" can accomplish when he puts his mind to it.

Possibly, but I think you could have made this argument about all non AQ schools when the BCS began it's reign of terror. This is simplistic thinking, and manages to ignore a truckload of variables.

Honestly, I have no idea how viable BSU Football is at this point. But more importantly, I don't care.

As a USU fan, I would love to see Boise come back to the WAC (at least in football, their other sport teams suck). It's not going to happen though. As for Nevada and Fresno, I say let them die a slow death in the MWC. I would rather take Air Force and SDSU from the MWC than let those other 2 come back. But alas, I am dreaming. As of now I get to look forward to great games against Denver University (bball only) and San Antonio Community High School College etc. Sucks to be an Aggie. Earlier this year I thought our athletic program was finally turning the corner and then we got screwed over by Nevada and Fresno. If they would have stayed strong to the agreement, the MWC would be the one falling apart and they would still be on ESPN. I never understood the big desire to go play on the Mountain Network...

At least now the Aggies might have a shot at a bowl game.

I actually agree with most of this. But BYU would've joined any one of them had any one of them wanted BYU. They would've joined in a second. To think otherwise is a fantasy.

Also, there's more to a move like this than almighty football BCS crap. Revenue, revenue, revenue. Utah and TCU are going to make A LOT MORE MONEY, whether they turn into nobody programs or whether they become true National Champion contenders. That's why conferences exist, and once you're in, you only leave because you want to.

I don't think there is a "truckload" of variables. Maybe I'm wrong and someday we'll see Boise in a big time conference but I don't think so. I just happen to think it's fairly reasonable to forecast that with it's current situation, Boise is going to have a hard time retaining Coaches and recruiting the type of players they would need to on a consistent basis.

Peterson may love being at Boise State, but in reality how many big time jobs is he going to turn down now that he's going to a MWC that's going to be no better than the conference Boise just left? The exact same problem faces them in recruiting.

Am I making some assumptions? Certainly, but they are assumptions rooted in logic. If that's too simplistic for you, I sincerely apologize.

I'm sure Patterson has had plenty of opportunities to go to big time programs. Unless he gets that itch later, why would he all of a sudden want to go later?

I think we might be talking about different coaches. My remarks were about Boise's coach Chris Peterson. I get the sense you're talking about Gary Patterson from TCU.

However, if you are asking about Peterson, I do think that with how the new MWC has basically dissolved since Boise agreed to join, Peterson probably has to end up looking at the Boise State gig as a stepping-stone job in the same way Urban Meyer parlayed his success at Utah into a big time gig. It's not like Peterson is a Boise alumn or has any other deep ties there. He's been a position coach and Pitt and Oregon and played his college ball at UC Davis.

I know I sound like a Boise hater, but I just honestly think they've hit their ceiling. How long will Peterson toil in the MWC while bigger schools in BCS conferences are throwing alot more cash his way?
