What's new

Technically, we can't be done, right?

We needed another solid big, we got one. We can let our core develop together for another year while reinforcing our depth, which we badly need as we saw last year. We know we have talent to build on, but it takes time and needs more veteran leadership from guys who are also a good fit. IMO this offseason has been very good. Could we use another star? Yes...but he may already be on the team.

So the jazz roster is:

Hayward
Favors
Rudy Gobert
George Hill
Dante Exum
Alec Burk
Trey Lyles
Rodney Hood
Joe Johnson
Raul Neto
Jeff Withey
Tibor Pleiss
Joe Ingles
Boris Diaw

and possibly

Shelvin Mack

that's 15 by my count

I've seen enough of Pleiss. While I'm an admitted Bolomby homer, I think the non-homer move is still to keep him over Pleiss. Bolomboy could actually become a monster on the glass and actually have a specialty in the NBA. I don't think Tibor possesses any one skill that translates to a possible future specialty.

Forgive me, I'm not a capologist, but aren't we still like $8 million below the salary floor? Did the Hill and JJ deals take care of that?
The jazz will likely use their remaining dollars to restructure/extend some contracts.

This is the deepest roster the Jazz have ever had. I don't think it's close. We have quality everywhere.

I think the moves are pretty much done now. The trades for Diaw and Hill, and the signing of JJ puts us somewhere around 83 million in salary which is basically right at the cap floor (84 million). The roster is basically set now as well. I'm just waiting to learn all the details involving the Hill and Diaw trades now. Especially the Hill trade because of the Worjanowski tweet that said "other pieces involved". I'm really interested to see if we get something else in the deal. I think any other move from here would be minor.

I think it's also the case that we have until the trade deadline to reach the floor
1. They don't have to reach the floor.
2. It's a payroll floor; what's counted is the actual team payroll for the season, not the cap numbers.

Or bought out. He probably ought to be finding a nice landing spot in Europe.

This actually isn't a bad idea. Although, the Jazz can also just trade him and Diaw for a contract in the $12 million dollar range at the deadline. Whoever acquires those two can just cut them both next year for an additional $10 million in cap space.
