Thabo Guaranteed for 2018-2019 Season

We need as many bodies as we can get to take on bron, now four times a year. Not saying we will stop him, but the group of guys we have should be enough to make life a tad bit more difficult.

Look at the bright side of this offseason. Jazz could make a 3-6 matchup, hope Bron can carry that team to a 4th seed and then beat up the Warriors a bit in the 2nd round. That would be Utah's goldilocks scenario if they can get past the 2nd round.

Also, Spida gonna start getting calls and learn to get to the line. Seemed like Gobert was getting more calls his way last season too.

Houston got worse, they lost Ariza. GSW lost McGee and still don't have a reliable center and it's not realistic to get better than them right now anyways. OKC is rolling out the same team. Portland lost Ed Davis and are still paying Turner and Leonard. Lakers haven't signed Kawhi yet and even if they do they will lose help around those. Pelicans signed, Elfrid Payton. ****ing Payton.

Chill. Jazz are more likely to improve internally than other teams.

I do agree that the jazz are more likely to improve internally. That’s why it’s frustrating they just picked up a 35 year old player coming off an injury who has to serve a suspension to start the year. I think it’d make sense to put stock in younger players that will be around and actually have some upside.

The west is going to be nuts.

I didn't feel like staying the obvious. He's a better ball handler and assist man but Thabo is supreme from 2 and solid from 3, and a significantly better defender.

It'll probably come down to matchups and I think Thabo helps a win now mode team more. I hope Royce earns that spot by playoffs. I have a lot of hope for the kid, but history isn't really on his side here.

O’Neale is a fantastic wing defender already. “Significantly” May be a stretch.

History may not be but the Jazz coaching staff is.

This move makes a ton of sense to me. Seemed like a no brainer unless something unexpected was happening. I can see the decision with Jonas and Udoh going either way depending up what Favs.

Thabo adds to the culture and he had his best offensive season with us. Not everyone needs to be young.

Assuming Favors is back, Udoh will likely depend more on Bradley's performance in the SL than anything else.

Im so dissapointed in everyone who likes this.

Y'all know he is 34 coming off MCL surgery. Has never averaged more than 8pts per game, and pretty has never done anything ever.

But I guess everyone is expecting the 34 year old with the bum knee to lock up some of the best wings in the game.

Right.

Ill see you in the reget threads midway through the season.

I cant help but think that money could have been more useful somewhere else.

No you won’t. He’s an expiring contract, good locker room presence and a great vet teacher for Mitchell, Allen, O’Neale and Exum in the final year for such things.

Being upset over this is simply petty sour grapes.

We're a 50+ win team as currently constructed and no major injuries. I'm not mad and completely looking forward to next year. Individual guys have to get better though. Let's see Mitchell and Royce take a step. I'd love to see the other rotation guys improve too.

There's a track record of guys improving hugely here. See: Ingles.

He's making 5.5m for one season, not 25m for multiple years. That'll be a lonely thread for you.

Good defender, 38% 3 point shooter last year, could do a lot worse for 5m a year. With Bron out west thats one more big SF we will need to defend.
He would have been signed instantly by someone else if we waived him, like lightspeed.

The absolute worst case scenario is that he’s an expiring to use in a trade. Best case is that he’s a contributor. . It’s win win

When I was at the Clippers-Jazz game I was impressed by Thabo's play. It sucks he got hurt. But he's definitely worth having as part of the 2nd unit. If I had to choose between Thabo, Jonas & Ekpe I'd choose Thabo without hesitation.

His second highest offensive season and the second fewest games. His highest offensive season was the one season he played in even less games. He’s had one full season in 13 years. Not everyone needs to be young, but I think someone with some upside would be nice. I guess I just don’t expect him to be healthy, and I don’t expect him to improve. Seems like there are better ways to use a roster spot.
