What's new

That moment when Exum "got it."

Sure. If handles also means footwork, hesitation, spins, etc. then yeah that's what makes Tony Parker special. This is stuff than can be developed, the raw skill is there.

I'm only trying to say that he isn't getting wherever he wants on the court. His handles are his primary limitation.

In my opinion Hayward will opt out too. Anyway I would be ok if the Jazz build the team around Gobert, Hood, Exum and Lyles. Hopefully we can resign Favors too.

The Jazz did all their best to make Hayward happy, now he has to show some gratitude at least not opting out at the end of this season.

Yeah maybe he wants somewhere where he can strut his hot wife and fashionable hair around a big city. Or does he stick with the relatively chill atmosphere of SLC? Because if it's all about being on a great team that might win him a championship I think he stays in Utah. Also where he raises his kid(s) might be a factor.

Good point, I can agree with that. They aren't an abomination at all but you're right they aren't as crisp as needed to really utilize his ability. For me, I still think the potential is there because that is something that could very well be developed over time as opposed to trying to develop a quick first step or playmaking ability.

Honestly speaking I don't know how much Hayward is attached to the Jazz jersey. On the other hand Gobert always shows us his happiness to wear the Jazz jersey.

I hope Hayward stays with the Jazz, if it won't happen then I hope the Jazz won't lose him for nothing in exchange.

Opting out doesn't mean he's leaving, and it's a no-brainer move.

I wouldn't says he's "got it" yet. He only attacks when he's completely comfortable. It's like a shooter who will only shot when he's wide open. When Exum puts himself in uncomfortable situations, get's knocked down, and then comes back for more...That's when his game will take off.

Austin Rivers?! Oh man, I can't wait to see what he can do against DJ Augustine, Delladova, and Earl Watson. I have front row tickets to the Raymond Felton-Dante showcase. So, so, stoked.

What's Trey Burke up to nowadays? I expect his career is about to break out like a ****, now that's he's out from under Snyder as a coach.

While our other key players are jack of all trades, master of none types, Exum and Gobert are our two players that possess elite attributes. Gobert already is an elite rim protector, defensive anchor/communicator and rebounder, Exum already has elite speed and defense. I can see Exum getting his playmaking to elite level as well, and the rest is up to how hard he'll work.

Though this season, at least until the ASB, should actually be considered Dante's rookie year because before he got drafted he basically had zero organized bball experience so the first season he was well behind the rooks coming out of college.

Trey was always a standout in preseason. So you guys can joke all you want, but we're really hurting without him right now.

I think Alec Burks has an elite attribute as well in getting to the rim. It's just a shame he is also becoming elite in injuries.

The way you worded it made it sound like he had the shot already and he just needs to "develop it" just made it sound like he was already at a certain level with his shot, I dont think he is. His shot still looks pretty stiff off the dribble and his set shots are almost all taken without a defender within 6 feet of him. He also has a lot of variance on the arc on his shot from shot to shot.

Im in love with everything he does but his shot. I trust he can develop it, but it might always be the weakness in his game.

Just hope he's a better spot up shooter than Marcus Smart who, it would appear, will be sub 30% for his career.

Yup. He's elite at hitting the ground after a drive. I like Alec but I would trade him as soon as he's healthy.

Favors is a concern too. Not sure what I would do with him but boy does he seem like another injury waiting to happen. How can such a young guy who doesn't throw himself on the ground a la Burks have so many back problems, etc.?

Well he's been pretty comfortable lately because he has been on the attack the last couple of games. I think having several days off between games is big for his recovery but I expect him to suffer with only a day or two off.

So many Franklin Jr's on this board, and the other half are idiots.
Amen.
Exum's defense is no joke! When we play the Warriors, I wonder, if we had George Hill Guarding Curry, how effective Exum could be guarding Durant. Obviously Exum doesn't have the length to Bother Durant's shot (no one agile enough does.... Maybe Aminu or Greek Freak closest thing.) but in the playoffs a few years ago, putting Chris Paul on Durant gave him issues if I remember right.
Why would Exum guard Durrant?
I agree. Look at Kawhi, Curry and even Harden. No one thought they would be as good as they are now 6 games into their 2nd preseason.

Look at Jermaine O'Neal. He looked out of his league the first 5-6 years of his career then took off all of a sudden

Why would Exum guard Durrant?

It's definitely an unconventional idea. In the past Durant has always lit the Jazz up. And he seems to be the one Guy on the Warriors I feel we are least equipped to defend. I mean, I would think with Hill and Exum and Gobert, we are as equipped as any team in the league to guard Curry, but we don't really have anyone that you look at and can say, he seems like he could match up well with Durant.

Anyway, I just remember the Clippers putting Paul on Durant in the playoffs and it caused him some issues because he literally could not dribble anywhere. Obviously Paul and Exum's physical profiles are quite different and this would likely not lead to the same effect, but just throwing a different look at Durant, maybe it would take him some time to adjust to Exum's strengths.

It's like Marcus Smart guarding Milsap in the playoffs. You might say why would Smart guard Milsap before that game and it would be a valid statement. Brad Stevens said on a podcast, I think it was Bill Simmons, that sometimes you just have to throw a new look at a guy cause it will take him out of his groove or comfort zone as he adjusts. I think throwing Exum at Durant could be a viable option at some point, or it might be a train wreck.

Not only did he not get better offensively, his defense actually got worst. keep the dream alive that Exum is the next big thing? honestly the probability of him playing in China two years from now is greater than him becoming an allstar at this point.

I don't see this at all. How do you figure this?

Does anyone have advanced stats on Dante for this season to see if he has "gotten it" because I am still waiting for that moment. He shows flashes but he is a LONG way off from being the force we need. Hill is there and if we can lock him down for a few years it will give Exum some breathing room an a mentor. I am still not sold he is the real deal. I guess too much hype for guys like Miles has made me cynical. Miles was the next MJ, but never even became a rotation player.
