I suspect he needed cooperation from all those people who said they would never get vaccinated. If they stick to their vow to never vaccinate, tough for him to “crush” Covid. I believe he should have known better, should have known that there was far too many stupid and selfish citizens, uninterested in helping their country, and who put themselves above the needs of their country. Probably needed ~95% vaccination rate to pull it off, just guessing. I have no idea what he could have said that would have dramatically increased vaccination rates. Esp. since ~60% of Republicans think Biden is an illegitimate president, which I would imagine makes it even less likely that they would listen to him at all, ever. I guess he was counting on the good will of the American people, but did not factor in all that absolutely inflexible ill will among the less intelligent.
Couldn't agree with this one more. Spot on! The VENN diagram appears to be concentric circles between the would-be authoritarians who recently praised Dick Cheney in the course of their January 6 themed political rally for the least several weeks along with the media who sees dollar signs with the ratings the January 6 and COVID content is hauling in. They're totally the same idiots. Those doing the enthusiastic blah-blah-blah January 6, and those doing the enthusiastic blah-blah-blah COVID are the same people.Amazing the enthusiasm some have for Covid. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. They’re the same idiots who think Jan 6 was a great day
No, they haven't.Plenty of countries throughout Asia have.
So, can I assume 95% boosters administered as well? Boosters seem to be important, and likely will continue to need them moving forward. Probably annual, at least, when it’s endemic. T cell vaccines would likely improve the situation as well, rendering longer lasting immunity.Dude in the state of Victoria we're at that 95 % double vaxxed rate and opened up early december We're now getting 30-40,000 cases a day from a population of 6 million And we're in summer
Anyone who says they can "stop" a viral pandemic is a charlatan And those who profess loudly that this shouldn't be politicised seem to be the ones doing so most forcefully
and "I'm gonna shut down the virus"
Trump is an A grade loon but Joe's an A grade ****wit

T-cell vaccines could top up immunity to COVID, as variants loom large
Peptide jabs targeting T cells could be especially useful for people with compromised immune systems, as backups for spike-based vaccines, or against Omicron and other emerging variants.www.nature.com
You’re right. In hindsight, as the president, who normally might be expected to offer hope to his fellow citizens, it would have been better if he had said: “My fellow Americans. Fellow citizens. My friends. Things really don’t look too good at the moment. The truth is, I don’t believe it’s going to get better anytime soon. I could stand here and say we’re gonna beat this thing, and I’m going to get it done. But what would be the point? No species lasts forever, and it may be that the handwriting is on the wall. It’s that grim. Cherish your loved ones, my fellow Americans, and pray for our safe delivery”.

Americans might need hope, but we want, and vote for, doom gloom and beating the other guy, the 'Merican way. Our motto should be "Give me victory or give the other guy death."It says a lot about your country that people believe that's the job of a president. Or even a presidential candidate.

Often, we’re not even electing them because we like them. We’re electing people because they trigger the tribe we hate. The President of the U.S. is in a national leadership position. Leaders often attempt to inspire and give hope.
I agree with you that the U.S. has a very skewed view of what a President is. Especially since we seem to be headed down a path of pushing celebrities into candidacy and considering their "performances" more than their relevant professional performance. The U.S. President is the national level administrator. That's the job. We should hire (elect) people with political administration skills. But we're electing people currently as ideological figure heads. They are not administrators, they are mouthpieces that echo what their voters want to hear. We are on a dangerous path.

Democrats definitely learned their lesson in 1980, watching Jimmy Carter lose in an embarrassing fashion because he told the truth. Hell, he's the last president to have a serious primary challenger. It's ridiculous. A president isn't supposed to offer you hope, they're supposed to offer you a sober, realistic look at things. Hope is nice but it doesn't do much for you in the long run.
It has been all downhill since 431 BC when Cleon of Athens hit the scene. The rise of populists and demagogues has led to a situation where if you're not promising that everything is going to be magical and amazing the moment you get elected--you're not going to get elected.
With all due respect, I think you are confusing presidents with administrators. The former is supposed to lead. The people will take a leader who is strong and wrong over one who is weak and correct. It is administrators that are supposed to offer you a sober, realistic look at things. What makes or breaks a good President is the administrators he surrounds himself with.A president isn't supposed to offer you hope, they're supposed to offer you a sober, realistic look at things. Hope is nice but it doesn't do much for you in the long run.
Have fun with that. Even the authoritarians are now capitalists. So-called "communist" China has multiple stock exchanges. Capitalism isn't going away anytime soon.We need to be told that both capitalism and democracy are in their end-stage.
