Is this really the society we want to live in? Do you really want to give white supremacists who hate women’s rights, the LGBT community, book banners, and insurrectionists the keys to the car back in 22 and 24?
 
As the world has become a more inclusive, welcoming, less violent, less criminal place over the last several decades it seems that there have been large portions of the population looking at all that and just seething with hatred and disgust, waiting for their moment to turn back the clock and undo everything we've accomplished...

And then they discovered their messiah.

The worship of trump is just so strange. I liked obama and supported him but would never have attended an obama rally or bought merchandise that featured him. People act like trump is their god. Its very very strange behavior.

Core Inflation that excludes food and energy is up 6.4% over the past 12 months. Biden and the democrats did this. These number are over the past 12 months, not the 12 days of Russia's invasion. The Federal Reserve is now taking the same steps taken by Paul Volker in 1979. Those measures, which the Fed is instituting starting now, in March, took just short of 3 years to get the economy under control last time. This is going to get worse. I hope you all own houses and if you have mortgages I hope you've locked in fixed interest rates. Also, as I've stated before, the American economy will be in recession before the end of the year.

The dummy should have pushed the "lowest inflation of all time, and best economy of all time, while a pandemic was going on" button. He pushed the raise inflation to historic rates button instead. Thats what we get for having people in their 70's be elligible to be our president.

I never thought I'd hear you cheering the efforts of Joe Manchin. In fact I seem to remember that you were unhappy that Manchin was not onboard with continuing the ridiculous 2020 spending into 2021. Glad to know you've come around.

As far as the news itself, it is good but not good enough. The national deficit is projected to be reduced by $1T between 2020 and 2021 but the national debt is projected to increase by over $1T between that same 2020 to 2021 timeframe. The national deficit and national debt should not be confused. The latter is the important one as it is how much we owe. The national debt is still skyrocketing under the Democrat House, Senate, and President but I will agree in the good news of Manchin holding the line to pull back from the insane parade of spending packages.

PPI Inflation, or so-called 'Wholesale Inflation', hit 10%. We are now in the land of double-digit inflation. Thanks Biden! All democrats other than Manchin and Sinema need to be voted out and not let anywhere near the levers of power for a generation.

For many politics has become religion. IMO anyone who makes blanket statements about their side and the other side are treating the issues more like dogma than political platforms. Trumps religious followers have crossed the lines to become zealots, so that is why it is so much more dangerous. But the religious adherents on both sides are what is driving the rift between the parties and stalling out our government. The belief that my side can do no wrong (i.e. is the "true" political religious) and your side is always wrong (i.e. the "false" political religion) is a cancer that is growing and eating away at our political and social structure and hamstringing our government in ways that will have decades of implications. And that cancer is fed by the endless stream of confirmation bias everyone gets on social media. It is really frightening.

The thing stalling our government is sanity. One side has no current power. The other side has majorities in the Senate, House, and President. They can do whatever they want without compromise. The only thing holding them back is that they all aren't morons. When 'defund the police' was a huge thing, it didn't get farther than it did because some, regardless of what they may have been saying publicly, thought that cutting police might not be a good idea. When the tenth mult-trillion dollar spending bill was being debated, some of the sane started glancing at the rising rate of inflation and pulled their support. When public support for mask mandates started to wane, some of the sane pivoted to move back in the direction of normalcy and away from mandates.

Religious adherents are the ones who want to run in a direction at warp speed. It is the sane who stall them.

I would prefer permanent end of daylight time, if we had to choose one. When your at the eastern end of a time zone, it's dark for while in the morning under daylight time. Kids died because cars didn't see them.

I prefer the way it is now. I like it light outside later for longer.
I think as a country we should simply put it to a vote. I wished we used voting for things instead of for people more often.
 
I prefer permanent daylight savings time. But I've never experienced that in the middle of winter so I don't know how weird it will be for it to be dark until about 8:50am.

Maybe the solution is for schools and other institutions to have seasonal changes in their hours/schedules. Middle of winter, don't start school until 10AM.

That's an idea and there are many others.
More street lights. More school speed limit lights and crosswalks. Put lights on kids backpacks. More education for drivers and children about safety in these scenarios. Parents walk with their kids to school when possible. (Seems to me that kids are mostly driven to school anymore)
I'm sure there are a bunch of other measures that could be taken even extreme things like making crosswalks similar to railroad crossings with the barriers that come down.
